Will Alleviated Military Trans Bans Influence the Draft?

Hi all,

I was recently skimming through the news, and as many of you have heard (and been advocating for), the US military is beginning to take a more progressive stance on the trans* community and our ability to serve, post-op/-hrt. I was wondering if anyone knew or had read anything regarding how this would possibly affect the selective service, and its "eligibility" for the draft. Currently, as someone AFAB but legally male (as determined through the courts), I am not required to sign up and have recently received the letter from the SS I requested stating as much. In the future, if laws change before I am over 25—that's the upper limit, isn't it?—would I be required to sign up?

Conversely, do you think this change might come into effect? Why or why not? I look forward to your discussion.  🙂

Maybe, maybe not, nobody has that kind of a crystal ball. I think that they may require everyone to register.

Personally I would like to see everyone, male and female be required to register. The reasons for opting out anyone AFAB are silly in this day and age especially since they are talking about combat roles for women.

That said, the way it is now if we are at the point of needing an actual draft we will have muuuuch bigger things to worry about.

And they usually draft 20 year olds anyway.
