Many rights of GLBT citizens not protected under Nebraska law

'Same-sex marriage seems to be the dominant political topic concerning gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people. However, in Nebraska there are several other pieces of legislation that concern the lives of GLBT citizens.

In 2000, voters in Nebraska amended the state constitution by passing Initiative 416. Article 1, Section 29 states that "only marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska. The uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska.'
