Anyone here been a patient of Perth-based endocrinologist Dr Peter Pullan?

We don't seem to have many Perthlings (see what I did there? ;) ) on the forum but it would be good to hear from them and their endo experiences.

Perth... Hmmm... I've heard of it.. That's near Broken Hill, right? [emoji4]

What motivated you to move there?

Circumstances more or less forced my hand, otherwise I'd be living in Sydney. Meh :/

Hey,  Perth is not that backward.

I am seeing Dr Tim Welborn in Nedlands (he is about 70+).  But will required psychiatrist report.

Friends are seeing Dr Stephen Adams at West Perth Medical Center.

Could try FB.

Could ask there.

Assuming that you are on HRT, would you mind letting me know very roughly what kind of regimen Welborn uses? You know, no doses (obviously) or anything, just the order in which he introduces (or doesn't) anti-androgens and hormones. Would be a real help if you could.

Hey,  Perth is not that backward.

I lived there for a few years when I was a kid (near Victoria Park during the 1970s) it was nice! Lived in Nedlands in 1969...all I remember is being stung by a bee! ;D

Sadly, as I noted above, not many people from Perth onboard. You may be waiting a while before you get an answer...

As I wanted low doses, as I have no direct plan of transitioning soon.  I have seen Tim since May 2015.

However, the common theme between myself and other patients that I am aware of that he has seen is.

Spironolactone for a few months to ensure no reaction.  At that time he also does blood work checking for DVT.
If you are good to go, then progynova.  Doses vary depending on desired outcome.
After 8 months, Tim switched me to Androcur as my T was not low enough and I was not interested in increasing the progynova dose.

Tim is very thorough with the blood work, to ensure that all is right with the blood chemistry.

Thanks, Thea.
My doctor, whom I previously mentioned, has had me on high dose spiro for 6-mths and has only recently added low dose estrogen. He's continuing spiro, despite the spiro having zero effect on anything. I've only had one set of bloods during that whole period and they were organised by my psychiatrist. I question my endo's methods and my gp thinks I should find someone else. Sigh.

Ms Grace

I know everyone is different and require different treatments but based on my experience with my endo it does seem unusual to be on only spiro for so long. At least you are now on estrogen, a low starting dose is the usual practice though so I hope things improve. If there are any Perth based LGBT support groups I'd suggest contacting them for other recommended endos.

Hi there, sorry for bringing to life an old thread.
I've personally been a patient of Dr Peter Pullen and have just sought out a new endo 11 months after I began seeing him.
I honestly don't recommend anyone to this doctor. Not saying that this applies to everybody, but my personal experience was that he has horrible bedside manner, very very very conservative, still isn't even referring to me by my real name, <I'm not fond of> his methods and "research". and he <seems to have> no care for me. <I feel> it is his way or the highway

Moderators edits: To clarify and make the post more personal without seeming to bash the doctor.

Alice,

Welcome to the site.

I am so sorry you have not had a good experience. Thank you for sharing with us. I edited a little of your post. We have a strict policy to not allow anyone to bash doctors, no matter how much they may seem to deserve it. So we try to make our doctor's reviews more personal statements rather than declarative.

I hope you have better luck with your new endocrinologist.

I also want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment to:

Thank you very much for the warm welcome Joanna. I will be sure to check out the links.

Also a big thank you for the post edit, I appreciate it :) I will endeavour to be more aware in the future xx

I have a good friend that sees my new endocrinologist, so I'm sure things will improve :-

I'm seeing Dr Bronwyn Stuckey RIGHT next to Welborn. in Nedlands. She's great :) Ask for a referral, but there may be a waiting period... of maybe a few months ...to get in to see her.... but once you're innowaitinganditgoesprettyquick.
  •

Loxygen

I currently see Dr Jennifer Ng who is also in Nedlands, I haven't seen anyone else mention her yet. I didn't have a waiting period to see her, just the usual "book a few weeks in advance cause I am a specialist" waiting period.

I Live in Perth, Dr Stuckey is OK, Tim Wellburn well they don't call him
'Touchy Feely Tim' for Nothing !!
The Best Endo I've seen is Assoc Prof Prince who used to be in McCourt St , he's really spot on & knows what he's doing !!!
  •

AnwenEira

Living in Perth myself, I'm not sure you really even need an endo, if you have a GP that knows what they're doing.
My experiences with endos in Perth has been less than pleasant, so I won't post them here lest I fall foul of some rule.
