"Alabama Chief justice Roy Moore has been suspended and faces possible removal from office after a state commission Friday night charged him with six counts of ethics violations surrounding his actions against same-sex marriage. Moore in January ordered all probate judges in Alabama to not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, despite the Supreme Court having ruled same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marriage."

I wrote a couple of posts on this in February of last year -- I said in one:

Chief Justice Moore is going to get himself kicked off the bench. It's happened before, and it will happen again over this. The Southern Poverty Law Center had filed an ethics complaint against him with the state's Judicial Inquiry Commission. From HuffPo:

This isn't Chief Justice Moore's first rodeo. A decade ago, he ignored a federal court order requiring the removal of a statue of the Ten Commandments from the State Judicial Building. For this offense, he was removed by the State Supreme Court in 2003. "[T]he Oath taken by Chief Justice Moore commands him to support both the United States and Alabama Constitutions," read the opinion removing him. "In the event of a conflict between the constitutions of Alabama and the United States, the Constitution of the United States must prevail."

And in another:

If Justice Moore is disciplined by the state's judicial ethics board, he won't be nearly the martyr/hero he'd be if the feds stepped in and cited him for contempt or arrested him.

It's taken long enough, but it's finally happening.

As Tysilio points out, this is not the first time around for Judge Moore.  Inexplicably, the voters of Alabama elected him Chief Justice a second time after he was removed from office the first time.  ("Fool me once, shame on you!  Fool me twice, shame on me!)

This time the Ethics Commission needs to drive a stake through the heart of this vampire by disbarring him permanently from the profession he has disgraced.

This is just one piece of a broader meltdown of the state government in benighted Alabama.  Articles of impeachment have been introduced against the state's governor for apparently having an affair with a staffer who was paid unlawfully from campaign funds.  And the Alabama House Speaker is also under a multiple-count indictment for corruption and ethics violations.

So all three branches of the state government are in a state of chaos.  And these are the same folks who presume to lecture US about how WE should live OUR lives!
