Having been a heavy drinker up until 2000 I had quite a gut on me which I have never been able to shift. I must say though I have not been into serious exercise for many years, up until my decision to transition last year. Since then I have begun walking and now do a minimum of 4ks per day with one day a week being 5-6 ks.

I have a severely arthritic hip that has deteriorated steadily over the last 5 years to the point where its bone on bone. If I warm up correctly and take my time for the initial part of my exercise until it warms up and then it's fine for awhile. I also have an implanted pump in my right side of my stomach. With the arthritis and the pump I am severely restricted being able to target this area. The rest of me has no excess fat at all and at 5" 10"" and 89kgs I am pretty close to my correct weight but just cannot seem to move this gut.

I need low impact exercise with limited repetitions(my pump won't handle it, if too vigorous) that will look after my hip and knee as well as reduce reduce my gut. I lost 7mm off it last week by simply walking and cutting any crap out of my diet.

Any exercise suggestions anyone?

Please talk it all through with a diet specialist concerning side effects for your conditions ...

I'd suggest eating more vegetables.

Many vegetables consist of water.
So replacing snacks and bars ( unlesss its oatmeal bars :) ) with apple slices for example should help.

Additionally drinking warm tea instead of drinks with a high amount of sugar.
(preferably fruit tea instead of black tea)

There is no need to starve oneself, eating reasonably and in a healthy variety should help a bit imo.

The Atkins way of eating is good for M & F ppl. I've been on it for over a year & lost about 25 pounds. We all have to take care of our eating to look out best along with exercise.
mtF, mid 50's, always a girl since childhood, HRT (Spiro, E & Fin.) since 8-13. Hormone levels are t at 12 & estrogen at 186. Face lift & eye lid surgery in 2014. Abdominoplasty/tummy tuck & some facial surgery May, 2015. Life is good for me. Love long nails & handsome men! Hopeful for my GRS & a nice normal depth vagina maybe by late summer. 5' 8", 180 pounds, 14 dress size, size 9.5 shoes. I'm kind of an elegant woman & like everything pink, nice & neet. Love my nails & classic Revlon Red. Moving back to Florida, so excited but so much work moving

80-90% of weight loss comes from diet changes. Find, get on, and stick to a good diet plan and you should see weight start to come off.

If your hip joint is bone on bone have you considered talking to your doc about a hip replacement? It's a remarkably effective surgery these days - my mum had one last year and it has improved her life no end.

If you are near your final weight, there may be another option. In the 10 years I was off HRT, my body moved the fat from all over to my belly area. In the 3 months after  I resumed HRT, I have lost 2 or 3 pounds but I can see my belly reducing and the fat returning to it's proper place. Yes I am walking but I was walking for over 6 months before that without anything happening.

Trying to eat more healthily just because I need too and it makes me feel better anyway....Green tea is supposed to be the go...however I can't stand the stuff myself but your point is a good one I am sure with all the different teas available out there I can find one I like.

I have a soft spot for chocolate which I have curbed severely over the last 6 months.

Thanks

I think If I lose any more weight my wife will hog tie me and make me eat. I think I could lose another 4kg myself and my wife thinks I just need to get the weight distributed better. I lost 7mm from my gut last week but only lost 1kg which I was happy about. I think you are right on about the diet and I don't mean diet an in "lose weight"...a healthy diet.

Thanks

I'm just a big old sook...I have already decided to get the replacement underway. I finally consented to see a surgeon and am weighting on the appointment. A friend of mine had both his done within a week and not under a general anesthetic he was awake and aware the whole time but he was also up and walking around unaided 48hrs later....

I am within 4 kg of my Goal weight, there is no excess of fat anywhere on my body apart from my little pot belly. I did take 7mm off last week by just walking so maybe with the combined diet and exercise it may be enough without specifically targeting my stomach....How long befo0re the weight starts to move around, I won't be up to the full transitional dose for another month as we slowly build the Estrogen levels in my blood.

Cheers

I have heard good things about the Atkins diet

Due to my medical status I am not advised to do the Atkins and I am not sure why but I was advised not too by my specialist Dr.

I am at half transition dosage but high menopause blood levels. In three months I have seen about a cup size increase in my breast, change in my legs and face with a noticeable reduction in my wast. Because I was on hormones before, it may be happening faster in me than it will in you but I suspect the change will be limited by the development of new fat cells in the proper location. It hard to say how long it will take but it could be self correcting over the next 1-2 years.

I'm currently seeing a trainer/nutritionist. According to him, diet is the biggest part of the change. I don't know about the Atkins diet, and I'm not sure how eating more vegetables will help other than reducing the urge to eat other things, but I have a bit of a gut as well. I've been told by the trainer/nutritionist that to get rid of it, eliminating carbs is the fastest way to go. He's got me on a high protein, no carb diet. If I'm having trouble sleeping he'll let me have some low-glycemic carbs like a handful of quinoa at dinner. Also, a palm-ful of berries to help ease cravings.

As for exercises, walking is fine but if that's a problem, maybe more stationary exercises would be better? For example, after doing planks I can barely sit up because my abs are so exhausted. My exercise routine is basically interval training - heavy weights, take a 30-60 second break, heavy weights, 30-60 second break, etc. It's low-movement cardio. Although, I'm kind of terrified that it will bulk me up, which I definitely do not want.

I've found it quite a bit harder to lose weight on HRT than before since my metabolism has slowed down. Of course I don't need some much food either; I got some bad habits.

I guess you probably know this, but when you go for SRS surgeons ask you to stop HRT before and after the surgery (unless its implants), and that would likely apply to this kind of surgery as well. I did ask a surgeon for about this for a minor procedure I had some years ago, and he knew nothing about. I stopped anyway.

I had liposuction & a tummy tuck almost a year ago today....It is kind of expensive & oh my it hurt so bad for the first 2-3 weeks but it will sure reduce your entire stomach area & remove any little belly. Good luck if you have it done.
