So my girlfriend took advantage of it being Halloween time and book a pedicure manicure for me.  This was my first aside from gluing on fake nails at home.   All the ladies there thought it was great,we told them I was going as a girl to a Halloween party.  After, we came home and she did my makeup ( I am still learning ) and we went out to eat.  My first time out en femme at public establishment.   After dinner we went to one of the gay bars, no rude comments all night but a couple funny looks.   Drinks were too strong so we left and went to the main Lesbian bar.  It must be a common thing cause no one seemed to look at all.  Oh I am sure they did, but I think they didnt care or weren't phased at all.
We left there cause the music just sucked.   WTH is up with the "GLBT" community and ->-bleeped-<-ty music??  I mean it was bad, can you say top 40 rejects?

Anyway, this has taken me 10 minutes to type cause of the nails.  But I thought it interesting, I didn't feel weird, out of place or like people were staring at all.  I was just, me.
If you ever feel like you are having a crisis of how others perceive you, put yourself where they can, you may find that even if you think they don't like it, most wouldn't say anything.

I might post a picture later.

That sounds fun.  I can't wait until I am at place where I am comfortable enough to go out in public as a girl.

Hi Skye!!
First night out 'en-femme'....  Something you will ALWAYS remember!!
I'm happy you went out and basically had a good time!
I'm not certain what 'top 40 rejects' are, but the places I have gone have everything from 'Techno' to a live all girl band, to a guy at a piano playing show tunes!!! ( Actually was at a gay bar!!! How stereotypycal)
Anyway, it is a night you will always remember and I'm glad you have pictures!!!
Post when you are going out again!!

Top 40 Rejects - basically pop culture synonymous with stereotypical FM stations, but worse.
It was just an observation really, Houston isn't what I would call a techno mecca, which is sad.   Most people want House.    ::sigh::

Thanks, I will post again :)

Hi Skye,

Really glad for you that you were able to go out and most importantly supported by your girlfriend. Your picture is also very nice. I wish I could do that too.  Sometime in the near future.

Tia,
Is the picture you???  Ghod!!  I WISH I looked 1/2 that good!!
The first trip out is the toughest.  Either go to something like a Tri-ess meeting or if you have made a few friends on the message board try and arrange a little 'Girl's Night Out'!!  Nothing fancy, just dinner at a 'T' or gay friendly restauant and a little clubbing at a gay bar or a 'T' hangout.
I have been going out for a little over 4 years now.  I still do not like going alone....  Safety in numbers and all that...
Heck!!  I'm not the prettiest or the most passable, but I try to have a good time!!
  Look at the pics....  http://geocities.com/lisaelizabeths
Page Photo1, has pics of me in an animal print top and slacks...  That was my first time out!!  By Page photo 3  I think I look better, but stilll need to lose 50 pounds....
So don't fret, just Do It!!  (Plug for NIKE...lol)
  Huggs to all,
  Lisa Elizabeth

Lisa,

I wish you were right about me looking like the lady in the picture >:(. That was just a picture from the selection that was available. I also wish I were half as good looking as her  :). I know what you are saying about the "First Night" and I am quite eager to do so. However, I have not made friends yet with anyone yet who shares the same interests as I do. But I am hoping that the next few months will change that. Your pictures are quite good and I wish I had the same courage as you do.

BTW, are you from "Transformation By Rori"? If so, I was planning to go there earlier in the year, but could not do so. I am waiting for the right time, before I go there. I think it will be good to get a makeover and go out to Hunters with someone there. I agree that it might not be safe to venture alone.

Tia,
Are you in the Chicago area?????
Yes, the first page is mostly from rori.
If you are, she also has a message forum.  sign up and join in there too!!  There are girls on the message board arranging outings every few weeks, PLUS Rori has a monthly outing right across the street from the store!!
Makes it easy to get a makeover and go out for the evening!!!
I could also send you a note on my next trip up there and talk you into going out for the evening!!!
  Let me know

House is great  ;)
Techno isn't as it used to be in  early 90's  :-\ :-\

House is....   What?  I am sorry I cannot repost, or quote that :D

I would agree that it used to be a lot better.   But a lot of that feeling is what the "::sigh::" was for.   Too many craptastic "DJ's" who are beyond glorified for being a tenth as good as their inspirations were.

House used to be better... Or could it be so that it's harder to find good house tracks  ::) ::)
At least I don't find so many good funky uplifting vocal house as I would like to.

I've tried to find out good electro/minimal house, but  :eusa_silenced: :eusa_wall:

That's soooooooooooooo true..

Well I think it was easier in 85-95, because there wasn't so much dance music.
Now days the dance scene is so huge that finding out really good tunes is huge job.
So it's so easy to just play the radio crap.. why bother to find out the good ones  ::) ::)

"I hate going to a club and just hearing the same radio crap again."

Find a better club?  Or at least one with a hipper/more offbeat/better/worse/strange and demented DJ.  Such places also tend to be smaller, more at home with 'different' people, and have cheaper drinks.  How can that possibly go wrong?

Second, I often go to a club in order to 'see and be seen' and when that kind of nonsense is going on, the DJ don't matter anyway.  I'm not listening, I'm not staying.  I'm strictly making an guest drive by, I'm not setting up camp.

And I suppose that I hear the 'same' kind of DJ music (more or less) when I do go to a place to dance, but that's because I'm into that kind of dancing, so I like the tribal and the drums and bass stuff, but I saw some of the first performances of Paul Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed, Cut Chemist... and I like that also.  I think that to this day, one of the best nights I've had, drag or not - and it was in full cute club stuff - was Paul Oakenfold in San Fran back in 99 at a small club - first time I had ever heard anyone DJ like that, the builds, the waves, the total scope of it.  It was cool.  And its not the stuff I hear on the radio, except net streams.

unfortunately I have very conservative friends where music is concerned.

Tekla, NEVER EVER EVER Mention Sasha to me again... OMG  Maybe a long time ago, but it wasn't a month maybe 2 that he was here in Houston.
If it was a mix, it was a mix of the same track over and over and over for 4 hours.    I was literally falling asleep!

It may just be me, but if its simple, and there isnt much to it, I wont be interested.   But I guess thats why I love Dark Techno.

Never thought that either Sasha or Digweed were as good alone as they were together.  Underworld had a show here this year, they were pretty good.  I'm also looking forward to DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist doing a spring tour.
