ASBURY PARK'S - TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE (TDOR)
is the conclusion of Trans Awareness Week.
Founded by trans activist, chiropractor, Dr. Geena Buono, a vibrant member of the Transgender and City of Asbury Park communities. This annual city wide event which has grown quickly into a state wide event is a memorial to remember all the transgender victims who were killed during the year due to violence. It is intended to bring awareness to this violence as well as the struggles, creativity, resiliency and beauty of the transgender community.
Thanks to Madison Marquette this years event will be held upstairs in the mezzanine of the Paramount Theatre located on the north end of the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Emceed by Dr. Geena, the event will feature" local musicians, speakers, a reading of the this year's transgender victims during a moment of silence, followed by a candlelight vigil walk down Ocean Ave to Club Paradise (The Empress Hotel), concluded with an appropriate hymn.
A social gathering with cake and coffee donated by Club Paradise will proceed inside The Empress Hotel Lounge.
Special thanks to Madison Marquette, The Empress Hotel / Club Paradise, Garden State Equality, Trinity Church, Asbury Park Community Church, Q-Spot, Project Real, Princeton University, Rutgers University, and the City of Asbury Park.
