Hi

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I just had to post something.

I am late coming to this, or, at least, coming to the decision. I'm 48 and living in the UK and have at last reached the decision to go MtoF properly. I want to start changing things, my clothing, appearance, etc, but I am careful but determined. I don't want to to anything too drastic yet but do desperately want to change. I read an excellent post about beauty routine earlier and whilst I have already started on that, I now know what direction to take, but it's other little things that I want to change too. I am actually quite short and stocky and apparently masculine, but certainly don't feel it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I have posted this is in the wrong place.

Hi Alannah,

I imagine you'll get more than a few responses encouraging you to begin hair removal, as it's one of the things that makes the biggest differences in de-masculinizing your look and because it takes a long time, generally.  Manicures/pedicures are a good habit to get into, adding color if you feel safe doing so.  I'm a big fan of women' jeans, finding them extraordinarily more comfortable than mens'.  And depending upon your particular situation, you may want to begin growing your hair out.  If your natural hair doesn't provide for the look you seek, you may wish to start experimenting with wigs, if only to gain some familiarity.

And goodness gracious don't run yourself down about starting late.  There are others whose names shall remain unspoken that didn't start in earnest until well into their fifties.  Good luck and welcome!

... or 60s!

I second the suggestion to start hair removal as soon as possible.  Being a much later starter, my beard was mostly white, making laser of limited use for me.  So I have to do electrolysis.  My electrologist says it will take two years.  Again, being a late starter, I don't want to wait that long, so I will have to face three days a week of stubble while trying to present as female.  Save yourself the embarassment and start now, so it's done if you decide to transition.

I would recommend talking to a gender therapist soon, to begin mapping out what you want to do and when.  Given that waiting lists for therapists are long in some parts of the world, you may want to get on a list right away.

48 is never too late. We do what we have to do to survive. I transitioned at age 66.

I went full time just before my 63rd birthday. Never too late!

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.
