Cognition!

Okay, so recently I've been questioning my gender identity and stumbled upon some mentions of intersex. And now I've got more questions than answers.  ;D

So, reasons I think I could be intersex...

- I'm AFAB and menstruate. But my body has always been more masculine- my shoulders are broader than my hips, I have way more body hair (arms and legs- and even some face, stomach area although it's lighter there and less visible). My breasts are pretty much A-cup and hardly existent. I've never really exercised much or worked out but I can beat most girls in sports easily.

- (TMI warning here, mention of genitalia): I remember, when I was about 5 and just discovering the difference between the sexes, someone said "boys have penises but girls don't". And I said "we do have penises- just very small ones". Everyone looked at me like I was insane, lol. I can't remember for the life of me what my parts looked like back then, but oh well.

- (More TMI) I also have this thing in my vagina which I assume is a large labia. It's kind of in the middle and splits it in two. I've noticed that menstruation only comes out of one side. This is a bad description, but I don't really know how to explain it.

- Until I was 8 or so, peeing used to really hurt. I remember my mother had to apply Sudocreme to my genitalia for years. I don't know why, and I don't want to ask.

- I have Asperger's Syndrome. Some say that's linked to high levels of foetal testosterone. I don't know if that's a factor...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Hi Cognition

Welcome to Susan's. I hope you enjoy your time here.

I really think the only person who can really help you with that is an expert. I guess the second thing is what difference will it make for you. If it really is important then seek some medical help to find out.  I am sure there will be other along to give you some opinions.

So you are able to get the very best from being here there are a couple of links we give to all our new members

Regards

Liz

Well having more questions than answers is certainly something we all experience. Lol

It's really hard to say if you have an intersex condition or not. Asking most doctors really seems to be outside of their daily knowledge base. Some will just ask, "what difference would it make". I understand the want to find out. When you always feel a little different in life you want to know why.

You're comments make me think you are quite young so forgive any assumptions.
Is your hymen still intact? While looking into articles about perennial raphe congenital deformities, I did see a textbook snippet that described several hymen forms. One is like a septum down the middle. My guess is it's like the early formation of the scrotal septum. Otherwise if you are young having a higher than female normal testosterone level it would explain some of your bodies development.

This is all just my untrained Internet research talking.  :D if you really want to know you would need to ask a doctor. Likely a general practice doctor will refer you to see some specialist for any kind of diagnosis. You can also look into your medical records. Some places keep records for decades while others destroy them after a number of years.
