Do guy friends talk with each other in the bathroom?

Inspired by the urinals/stalls thread I decided to start a new one:

Anyone who has experience on visiting the male bathroom, tell me do guys who are friends talk with each other there? At the urinals? Overall in the bathroom space? (While waiting, washing hands etc...)

Not much experience, but...! I can imagine being actually friends with someone might be a situation to strike up a conversation - or at least say something to each other?

Though I still can't believe even friends have any 'need' to talk there much.

For those who don't know: Yes, I do know that usually men don't talk in the bathroom. Or say anything to each other.

I was just wondering what might make someone talk!

What about if you are really drunk, for example,  ? Might that ease things a little bit?

When presenting as male I never really talked to anyone during bathroom trips. Occasionally at sink washing hands, but typically the line is not present or doesn't warrant talking due to zero time. With urinals most guys usually tend to have an extra empty stall between for some additional privacy. And of course the speed at urinals is faster than stalls. 

Not so much frowned upon as much as not conducive to striking up a conversation in said environment.

Typically no more than a 'hi' at a urinal. A 'hello' or something similar is somewhat normal in the bathroom space, conversations of more than a few words are pretty rare. No talking while in a stall!

I think it depends on the place. I've been to concerts and clubs where guys will talk as they're washing their hands or coming in and out of the bathroom but they don't linger and have entire conversations in front of the mirror like you would see in a women's restroom.

Guard is certainly up in bathrooms with guys. Homophobia is perhaps part of the reason for this. If it is friends, it does make a difference. Still, I would say eye contact would still be limited.

Agreed with all the other comments. You will find guys do not talk. Mainly a hi, hello, yo and then a little at the sink. Overall no urinal talking or eye contact. A good video on youtube on this is called "male restroom etiquette." Now it is meant to be funny but, it does make some points that are so true.

I would never engage in verbal conversation with a stranger, unless they sounded like they were having cardiac arrest in the stall.  A nod or grunt, maybe, if we accidentally made eye contact.  This even in places like the Portland Oregon Powell's Books Main Store, where I've been shopping for 40 years.   Even men straight off a Portlandia episode, ponytail, Birkenstocks, on their way to protest logging of old growth forest.  It just isn't done.

Friends of mine, on the other hand...usually thoughtful remarks like "What crawled up your ass and died?!?!?!"    Or "Jesus, did you fall in or something?"  Delivered at full volume, completely ignoring other patrons.  If they laugh, good for them.  It's a form of bonding. 

Men who know each other talk in locker rooms, too; we'll be there for a while, after all.  And, oddly enough, I've had strangers strike up conversations with me there, too, and that's OK.  Bathrooms, no.  For some reason it's sacrosanct.  Or there's a mythos about homosexuals using them for pickups, to go along with the mythos about gay men being flamboyant.

Guys are pretty much all business in the bathroom, no chit chat and don't even look at me kinda scene   

Friends are the only exception and even that's a bit limited, hot chicks and cars or something that at least sounds somewhat important in some way

The only verbal you might use with a stranger is "excuse me" as you pass by

Purplewolf, I've noticed a couple of times were friends will be talking to each other at the urinal.  Usually this took place at a concert/event or bar, drinking has occurred or is occurring, and the conversation is a continuation of a topic they were discussing while walking to the restroom or waiting in line.   

It would be extremely rare for someone to start a conversation at the urinal as others have mentioned.

Close guy friends yes they do "talk" at the urinal, same for guys at work who are peers. Other than that, not that I have witnessed in my 39 years.

Honestly, since I don't go to the bathroom with groups of people anymore, I'm in there on my own.  I don't usually talk to anyone other than "yo" or "whazzup?"  But I DO have a story of the one time I talked to a guy while in the restroom!

Now a little backstory.  Not only have my genderfluid boyfriend called me a "pretty boy," but some in my suport group have (jokingly perhaps) said so as well, despite my now more masculine face and 13-year old boy facial hair.

Anyways, I was at my local library with my anime club and I had to piss.  I walked into the bathroom, and a new member was at the urinal.  He was shocked to see me.  Despite my now (mostly [emoji23]) baritone voice, I'm guesssing that he migendered me mentally, since he cried out, "this is the mens room!"

Chuckling, I simply replied, "I'm a guy too!"  And then continued to the stall to do my business.  And yes, I sat down. [emoji12]

I might have scared him off, since it was a few months ago and he hasn't been back since.  His loss!

sure, friends talk to each other... usually only at the sink, not while doing their business.  no go for strangers.
that's my limited experience, anyway.  depends on the individual and probably the culture of the area you live in.

Not at all, you even avoid eye contact. Maybe if you go in with a really good friend but guys don't go to the bathroom in groups like women do.

I'd feel somewhat weird if any complete stranger, man or woman, decided to hold a full blown conversation with me in a toilet in close proximity. It has happened but whenever it has I've had the overwhelming desire to say "can we talk outside? eau de public toilette isn't my favourite."

At home though, both my cat and my housemate will willingly barge right into the bathroom while I'm using it and attempt conversation.
