Might be an odd question to ask but....height?

I know this sounds like a ridiculous question so I apologize if it is. (Tried searching for similar posts but didn't see any)

So I noticed that after years of hrt, I lost a few inches of height and I'm now at 5'5. Is there any way to....regain some of that lost height without going off hrt? I honestly had no idea that height fluctuations were a thing while on hrt. My current weight seems to fluctuate between 132 - 138lbs so I'm guessing this is in relation to loss of muscle density as well?

I've read that the possible reasons for loss of height is due to pelvic anterior tilting, spinal ligament shortening, overall muscle reduction, etc.

Is it possible to reverse of the effects of height loss or is it just one of the many possible side effects of hrt?

🤔 good question. Perhaps you could step up your weight training and see if muscle will give you some height (which is more than likely posture). After 3 years on Hormones I'm still 5'11.

I've lost 1 1/2 inches, now 5' 7", and weigh about 133 lbs today.

The height change is from aging and soft tissue changes, particularly the pelvic anterior tilting I think.  I do not think it is fully reversible.  Stopping Estradiol and going on a transition dose of Testosterone MIGHT reverse some of the soft tissue changes, but not those from aging.   I'm certainly not trying that!

Oh dang, 5'11? I would love to be taller.

I actually had a lot of lean muscle mass prior to my transition and it took forever of literally not workout and just doing cardio once in a while to lose most of the muscle mass. I'm somewhat afraid to workout and regain some of the muscle mass that took forever to go away.

And, I don't think the short and muscular look is great on me, lol.

I'm in my 30's so I don't think it has to do with aging but yeah, I definitely would never want to go back on test. That stuff made me a very physically aggressive and angry person. I don't miss those days at all.

lol, thanks Kendra but I don't think my dress code at work allows me to wear high heels, I would have to explain to my boss why I decided to wear heels instead of my dress shoes.

Also, would feel totally weird wearing high heels while still presenting as a guy, although it would be hilarious and quite the conversation starter

More seriously, if you're on female HRT you'll be less likely to build muscle mass in weight training. Strength is what you want. My weights class (Body Pump at the YMCA) is 80% women, and many of them lift more than me. But they all look feminine and are generally not bulky (at least not with muscles).

I think it is a good question to ask.  I'm 5'3 and would have issues with clothes if I were significantly smaller.

I told my surgeon way back two years ago I thought I was 5ft 9 but when my height was taken a month ago at the Drs it was 5ft 7inch...I looked at my old driver license and it had 180cm or 5ft 10 in...is that down to HRT? I have no idea but somewhere along the line I have lost 2 inches in the process....I can remember saying that I was 5ft 9 1/2inch which is roughly 180 cm...(Twilight Zone them plays in the background)

I used to be 6', I am now 5'10" ... nothing to do with HRT, joint space shrinkage due to getting old ... now, if I should shorten up even more I might get suspicious ....

I've never heard that m2f HRT causes shrinkage in height, just in other places !
If this is true, I would be ecstatic!

I went into the military at 6'2 ¾" at 20yo. My last physical before separating at 23yo they said I was 6'2 ¼". I lost ½" ! If this shrinkage in height thing affects me, I would love to be under 6' 0"!

I haven't had any doctor actually measure my height lately. I think that if anything they just ask me what my height is. Guess I need to ask to be measured!

I've lost half an inch in my FIRST month. I re-measure it every few days, thinking I've made some mistake, but I keep measuring myself shorter. I really wasn't expecting things to change this quickly.

I'm 55, and I used to be 5' 10", but nowadays I'm 5' 9".  Joints shrink and disks in your spine also have a tendency to compress/settle with age.

Hi, Miyann,

Funny you bring this up.  Over the last few years I have been 5' 9 3/4"
and on my last visit I was surprised when on the same measuring platform, I measured 5' 9 1/4".
Didn't think anything of it until I read your post.

Hmmmm.

My therapist's response was bone density loss?  Don't know?  Just starting to think about it.
