Quote from: Petunia on June 27, 2026, 01:27:04 AMListening to you talk about golf Marion makes me wonder how I would go if I went and played dressed pretty.

Can you make golf a social outing rather than a competitive challenge?
I socialize really well with both guys and girls.  It helps that my voice and mannerisms match my outfits.

Though the last time I was paired with a female twosome my consistent ball striking was a bit much for them.  At the turn they said it was OK for me to play ahead of them while they took a short break.  So I joined a twosome of guys and helped them play faster by telling them they were playing too fast!  They looked at the cart screen and noted they were 19 minutes ahead at the 11th tee! I play better when I taken enough practice shots to see that I'm set up properly.  Why rush when there is nobody in sight ahead of us on a hot and humid day?

Guys are pleasantly surprised to see that I can play fast, despite my small size.
I can play with guys on the white tees by keeping the ball on the short grass and using my ball striking skills to quickly move the ball down the fairway. And quickly finishing the hole with my short game skills.

What is unusual is my steady improvement. I've improved my balance, sequencing, and tempo to where I can drive the ball with authority. The ball is going precisely where I aimed, with a very nice forward roll. 😀

I bought some fresh salmon, stuck in back of the top shelf of the refrigerator to keep it cold, and forgot about it until 60 hours after purchase.  It was still good so I broiled it in the wee hours of the morning!  I marinated it for an hour in miso/white wine/mirin which I also used as a post broil baste.

Yesterday I bought fresh butter corn at the local farm stand after visiting the library and reading the Wall Street Journal.

Did you do that alteration yourself?

Happy golfing.

Did you watch the Happy Gilmore movie?

Yes, I watched Happy Gilmore.

I have a 14inch chop  saw to cut graphite shafts and a good sized air compressor to blow grips on and off.
I also have two little lathes and a milling machine to make stuff.  😀

That is nice that you have that gear.  I thought the grips just worked their way down the shaft, like with some twisting downward.  Interesting, that all is.

Do the links get busy on July 4th there, or not, or are they closed to let staff enjoy the holiday?

There are a lot of tee times today.  It may be the brutally hot weather that is more suited to going to the beach with one's family and friends.  My first year with online tee times so I don't know what it was like last year.

I thought of going to the beach but I think it would be better when it isn't so crowded.

Maybe you can squeeze in both activities today!  Or do two rounds of golf and then visit Hole 19 or the snack shop at the clubhouse.

I did not like Happy Gilmore 2 very much.  Not as good as the original.  Caddyshack II was a better sequel than the second Happy Gilmore.

I am busy pruning off the spent blooms of my roses to encourage them to bloom again instead of making seeds for new rose plants.

ChrissyRyan

I read where it can be a good time now to prune roses, not so for many other plants.

Yes, roses respond well to pruning, even in the heat of summer.
The root system of a rose needs to be big enough to support the top growth.
If the new foliage is wilting just prune that off!  Might as well prune off any old or disease canes as well.  The root system will now have a much smaller plant to  support!

I really don't know Marion.
I have always been really hard on myself.

No matter what I do it is never enough to appease my inner demons.

I know I have changed a lot over the last 3 years, but I don't want to risk triggering old behaviours.
And then one day you stop to find,
10 years have got behind you,
no one told you when to run,
you missed the starting gun

Yesterday I had a small waffle ice cream cone at Mortensen's for $8.
They have been in business for 115 years!
I wore a tight fitting hot pink top that showed off my thin waist.
I find it amusing to see how much ice cream I get when I dress like that. 😃

That seems expensive but what do I know?!

Yes, they are on the expensive side for quality ice cream and that includes 53 cents for taxes.
7.22+0.53=7.75 total
Ice cream varies tremendously in fat content. I still need to gain a few pounds to get to my optimum weight so I can eat calorie dense food.

That wasn't the only local business I supported that day.
I went to the local farm stand to buy two ears of butter corn and had a clam strips meal at Doogies, the local hot dog restaurant.

I am glad you got to get all those nice foodie experiences.  That is nice.

Have you ever put a cut big enough in a golf ball to throw it away?

No, I typically lose a golf ball in the water or woods before it gets too damaged to use.

I've been able to swing faster to avoid water hazards.  I  played the last 27 holes without losing a golf ball!

Transgender women in sports. Is it fair to wear color mismatched dark pink top and a brighter hot pink skirt?

Last time I played I told my random partner I normally play from the forward tees but would be fine playing from whatever tees he was playing. I need three strokes to reach the green either way.  From the whites it was a 160 yard drive to the short grass, 130 yard hybrid, again on the short grass, and an easy bump and run up the green. Low stress golf, while my partner was fighting the thick ball swallowing rough!  After I got warmed up I started swinging like a girl, lengthening by backswing and relying on tempo and sequencing to accurately smash the ball down the middle of the fairway.  Not much room for error,  especially when faced with looming water hazards.  Instead of backing off I used the extra adrenaline to swing faster.  😀

After being crushed by the 6th hole my partner needed a time out on the 7th Tee while he having second thoughts about spending so much time playing golf.  He had planned to play 18 the morning before League play in the afternoon.  I then hit a gorgeous drive to the middle of the fairway, as long as my partners, whose ball was in the right rough. The smart play is to lay up, just before the water.  I elected to go for it with a 4H, which I thinned slightly, so ended being a couple yards longer than a layup, but still safely on dry land!  Had I flushed it it should have cleared the brook running across the hole. My third shot was two yards short of the green, pretty much the same as my partner who was a yard off the green! It took me three strokes to make the ball go 410 yards.

I play with chess-like strategy,  calculating and strategizing the effect of my most likely mis-hit of the ball.  I also line up my approach shots to the green, so that I can use a simple bump and runs instead of a more risky shots over a sand filled bunkers.

I just bought a new 4H in Callaway Callaway Pre-Owned women's sale for $73!  CPO is a major maker's outlet store. It is an example of vanity sizing as the loft is 21* while my older 4H, also from Callaway, has 24* of loft. This is called loft jacking, to make the buyer think the club provides more distance that other 4 Hybrids.  It took me a while to realize that instead of looking for a 3H, I needed to look for a vanity sized 4H!

The Korean brother has moved to Connecticut to play golf.  Makes sense since Tee Times are hard to get where he used to live.  Played with him again yesterday.   He was surprised to see how well I was driving the ball and gave me a lot of encouragement. On the last hole he realized I went through the day without making a bad driver swing! Last time we played he gave his brother a lesson in how to drive the ball--he'd be a really great golfer if he could fix that part of his game.

I've been using my 4 and 5 hybrids to play links style golf, where I keep the ball relatively low and roll the ball down the short grass rather than punching it high in the air so it stops quickly when it lands.  It requires more creativity to bounce the ball off mounds of grass but I've had great success in getting the ball to stop close to the hole.  Better than my partners using a more conventional approach!
