We are still waiting on word from the new owners of the property about what they want to change with our rental agreements. Most likely, the sale hasn't closed yet.
This made me do some serious thinking. I knew when I moved here that this place would be temporary. Sort of a base of operations until I find something better. It was a pain house hunting in Colorado from South Dakota, with a 9-hour drive one way. The sale by the owners was a wake-up call that I needed to get off the couch and start looking.
I contacted my bank (USAA) and spoke to a mortgage loan officer to see what my options are. Within an hour, I had a pre-qualification letter, so I at least know what price range to look at.
There aren't many places available, but I am told we are in a Buyer's Market, and sellers will be more likely to negotiate. So, I just look around online and see what comes up.
Last week, there was a shooting in the parking lot of a major grocery store just five blocks north of me. A couple of days ago, a man was arrested trying to use a water pistol that looked like a real gun to get into a daycare center, five blocks east of me. Yeah, it is time to GTFO of the city.
I have two houses I want to look at, so today I will take a drive and scout the neighborhood. They are smaller towns, so I want to see things like how the neighbors live, how far away the grocery store is, and what the price of gas is.
If all checks out, I'll contact my realtor and have him schedule a walk-through of the homes.
Hopefully, they will turn out better than I expect. We will see.
