You're right, Chrissy.

Dating back to Roman times.

I hadn't heard about that, nice.

They're always digging interesting stuff up in this country!

I live near Hadrians Wall and at one of the nearby forts (Vindolanda) they found well preserved Roman leather boxing gloves and even notes on wooden tablets. One of them was from a roman legionaire to his family moaning about the british weather and asking them to send him fresh socks! We had crap weather even back then ha ha!

@Emma1017 did an archaeological excavation at Hadrian's Wall. I bet she has some stories about that area's history.

I think there were two big long walls put up by the Romans in the U.K.
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

A huge gold vein has recently been found in China, perhaps the largest ever discovered.

China currently has a big need for gold, and it imports a lot of it.

China's gold acquisition has been ongoing for decades. They buy up a lot of it that is sold on the metals markets. But they use it in manufacturing, not for currency or stockpiling. They need it to produce electronics, which are a major export and thus a major source of income for them.

Do they make a knock off McClaren F1? With the gold lined engine bay?

Oh wow! She likely was at Vindolanda. The site is huge and has been continuously excavated since 1970, they are still finding things today.

There were two walls yes, the short lived Antonine wall was further north in Scotland but that was just an earthwork wall.

Hadrians Wall was a proper stonebuilt defensive wall between 15-20 feet high with 80 milecastles 160 turrets. There were supporting forts (for cavalry and foot soldiers) and towns that built up alongside it. It stretches for 73 miles through rugged and mostly remote landscape completely bisecting the country. There is a walkers trail that runs alongside it so you can walk the length of it.

It is the true inspiration for the ice wall in Game of Thrones (The Scots were the wildlings! ha ha!)

Sorry, I am late to the party.  I spent ten years excavating on Hadrian's Wall with a short excavation at York (they had more pubs).  I am a history geek.  I chose England to excavate Roman ruins because there is no unexploded ordinance, I kind of speak the language, I like fish and chips, and I really love the pubs.

I used to rent a flat in Halt Whistle overlooking the Black Bull Pub, dating back to 1652, with a great fish and chips place right next door.  The commute to the site through rolling hills of wandering sheep was so much better than a subway ride to work in NYC.  I worked with two archaeologists and their team of Canadian Classics students.  The kids were great.

Some of the stuff we found was leather tents and sandals, pottery, small altars, coins, and, of course, the Vindolanda tablets.  Ending the day at a pub wasn't too shabby either.  I hiked most of the Wall.  The sunrises and sunsets were stunning.

I had to retire because my knees are shot, and it requires a lot of kneeling, but I have continued my deep study of pubs...

Lori, I just wanted to add to the discussion about gold and silver.

Traditionally, gold prices are driven by safe-haven demand, inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty. We have all three happening now.  Gold has risen by more than 54% in the last 12 months.

Silver has always been a laggard, but not in the last year.  It has risen by over 150% in the last 12 months, driven by high industrial demand for AI, solar, and electronics, a mining shortage, and being declared a strategic metal by numerous countries.

I don't think the drivers on gold and silver will end soon, but the path higher will have numerous sell-offs as short players trade against the longer trend.

Tomorrow, gold and silver will jump because of the attack on Iran.

Wow, 10 years! That must have been amazing, the things you must have seen! I actually know the Black Bull pub! I used to work for a land agency who had an office opposite the Centre of Britain hotel just round the corner from the Black Bull, Whilst I was based in Stocksfield I used to pop into the office quite a bit. I have nipped into the pub for a cheeky after work pint occasionaly! Was 20 odd years ago mind. Small world!

You should come to my town and carry on your pub research, we have 8 all together in the centre of our small town. That is from when it was a busy river port in the 1800s, great when the music festival is on! Look up Upton upon Severn.
