VictoriasSecret

Hello all,

Hoping this post finds you well.

SO, today I received news that finally closes a chapter in my life that has dogged me for nearly 40 years.

I have received confirmation that both my change of name and my sex descriptor have been updated on my birth certificate.

This is going to make applying for a new passport as seamless as possible for my impending trip to Thailand in August.

Certificate to arrive within the next 3 weeks.

For those of you who are not aware, laws in New South Wales, Australia, now allow a person born in this state, to firstly change their name to their desired new name.

Once they have changed over all of their identity documents (drivers licence etc), they can then apply for Change of Sex. No surgery documents are now required for this.

I changed my identity documents way back in the early 90's so this recent process has been pretty seamless for me.

This law of changing the sex descriptor in NSW has cost me approx $500 AUD.

As mentioned in an earlier post, the process of change of name back in the 90's is now outdated and not recognised. The department which that process was done no longer exists and my documents from back then became null and void. Thankfully I changed everything over back then and it hasn't come back to haunt me.

New South Wales Birth Deaths And Marriages now deal with these processes.

Now that this is done, I can finally go through normal processes like applying for a job or any other situation when my birth certificate or passport is needed for identification, without fear or ridicule of being judged for my personal choices.

Even with today's laws where we are meant to be "inclusive" in Australian society, there is still the occasional look of disdain or disapproval.

I know it's a them problem. not a me problem!!!

And so, once I have my new birth certificate in my hands, I can finally draw closure to this chapter.
