NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — An unclaimed U.S. Navy veteran with no known family will
be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 10, in Nashville with full military honors, and members of the
public are invited to attend the service.

UPDATE "We are able to claim our honorable veterans" Unclaimed veteran laid to rest
in Nashville

Lonnie D. Wayman, a Navy veteran, will be buried at 9 a.m. at the Middle Tennessee
State Veterans Cemetery, located at 7931 McCrory Lane.

Organizers say Wayman had no known relatives and are encouraging the community to attend
the service to honor his military service and ensure he is not laid to rest alone.

The burial will include full military honors in recognition of his service to the United States.

The Black Hills National Cemetery did this, too. Maybe it is all the National Cemeteries. In SD, the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) would notify me about once a month when they had a funeral for an unclaimed veteran.

I think it is sad that they had no one, but I understand that many of them just outlived their relatives and maybe had no children.

Thanks for posting this, Danielle.
