The Trump administration has sued Minnesota's Department of Education and the Minnesota State High School League Monday, declaring that their trans-inclusive student athlete policies violate federal law.
In a legal complaint filed on Monday, March 30, the Justice Department claimed that by allowing transgender and cisgender girls to compete against each other in women's sports and share locker rooms and bathrooms, Minnesota has violated Title IX.
"In open defiance of Title IX's anti-discrimination protections, Minnesota's policies and practices create unfair competition, deny girls equal educational opportunities, and expose girls to a hostile educational environment with heightened risks of physical injury and psychological harm," the complaint argues.
The Trump administration previously filed similar lawsuits against states like California and Maine. According to the Justice Department, Minnesota's Department of Education currently receives approximately $2.98 billion in federal funding from the Department of Education, and $42.6 million from the Department of Health and Human Services.
