Sarah's World Tour of Northumberland - part 4

This is Alnwick Castle, pronounced "Anne-ick", about 35 mins drive North of me. One of the big 4 landmark castles in Northumberland and the second largest inhabited castle in the UK, second only to Windsor Castle. This is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland aka the Percy Family a very powerful family.

This one really is a beauty. I had the whole walk to myself this morning, I took some snaps before just sitting and chilling by the weir a bit further along.

Yes you can go inside most of it though there are private quarters in the main keep. There is also an attached gardens which are a major tourist draw. I'm not going in as I've been many times before but if you want to see inside the walls watch the Harry Potter films as this is the real Hogwarts.

After the castle I called into my favourite nature reserve to see what birds I could see and for a bit of a chill. However, I managed to get buzzed by the RAF! Not the type of flying objects I was looking for!

I'm used to this flying over my house but this was very very low. It was practising tactical landings on the adjacent beach. Sorry the pics aren't great but I was trying to shoot up through the slot in the hide!

All in all an interesting day out and the weather was gorgeous again.

Lovely pictures of Northumberland. Looks like you had a nice day too. Its been ages since I've been and my boyfriend has never been so will probably come up again sometime for a break.

That's the castle I think you went to Charlotte. Am I right? Obviously you would have been unlikely to see it from this angle though.

Are you near a military range or something? I knew they flew into Wales for the Mach loop and the lakes too. Didn't know they buzzed the Malvern Hills. We have a huge RAF military range called spadeadam up here plus the huge Otterburn Range for the Army. They use Newcastle as an emergency direversion airfield so I get all sorts coming over to practise. Spadeadam is where the UK used to have a rocket program and is where Top Gear lauched their reliant robin space shuttle if you remember that one!

Went to both castles though didn't pay to go in as back then money was poor. But had a look around which was nice. Also went to Seahouses and Cragside. Stayed at Ashington in the Premier iNn as was cheap!! Just a 3 day visit.

I use to watch Top Gear. I thought it was an amazing show. I laughed so hard when they tried to laugh the Robin.
