As far as the world cup is concerned... I have less than zero interest in it. I did hear my whole street through the window, though. They were very into it.

I am predicting a plucky quarter final run before going home as "not as bad as it could have been."

The matildas is a way better name than the mens soccerroos.

NEwcastle united womens team is on a massive drive to get up to the top league. THey are rather unimaginativly referred to as "The lasses" as in "Haway the lasses!" THey gone from total obscurity the the womens second division since 2022 when tehy were brought under the wing of NUFC proper. Even in those lower leagues they were attracting gate receipts of over 26,000 whcih was unheard of in lower leagues and on par with the womens premier league.

Thw womens game is slower but one of the best things about it is the women don't roll around on the floor after every tackle screaming like a ...well, a little girl ha ha!

Well I've been putting a few of the local ones on my blog Chrissy. So far I've done Warkworth, Bothal, Duntanburgh and Alnwick Castles. Newcastle is named after the "new castle' that was built by William the conqueror's son Robert. The castle keep, and one of the gates still remains today though the Victorians shamelesly built railway bridges right through the site. I'll not bother taking pictures of it as it's not very photogenic. The keep itself is in excellent condition with all it's original rooms still intact. You get a great view of the city from the battlements as it overlooks all seven famous Newcastle bridges.

Looks over a back road now but the area would have been marsh and that road may have been only way through. The church close by is Norman, well before the Victorians got at it!

I watched the second half Petunia. I have been so disolusioned with the England football team for so long, it was a breath of fresh air to watch a competitive swashbuckling game like that. Could be the game of the tournament so far for the neutrals. Croatia were very good and have been a bogey team of ours for a very long time.

Yes! Most definitely the best game so far, even counting the 5-1 smackdown 🇸🇪 gave to Tunisia.

Yeah UK place name etymology is fascinating. The town of Morpeth where I work literally means murder or death path. This is thought to be because when you travelled further North the border rievers (clan like, lawless families that were fiercely agressive) were notorious for ambushing, robbing and murdering travellers on their way to Scotland. Those rievers are why Northumberland has so many Bastle Houses and Pele Towers. It was a real wild frontier back then. I do wonder if that is what Game of Thrones bases it's "wildlings" on. The wild clans just North of Hadrians wall!

I believe that Germany has more castles than they have McDonald's.

I found it amazing that some McDonald's in Europe charged even their customers to use the public restrooms.  Plus their prices were way higher than most of the USA, although California seemed to have high prices for McDonald's food.

Ah well, by that definition the list is smaller. It includes Bothal Castle, Prudhoe Castle, Ayton Castle, Newcastle Castle, Tynemouth Castle, Milbourne Castle, Morpeth Castle and Hylton castle that I can think of. Maybe just in range would be Warkworth too.

Yeah we have a few funny ones near us:- ->-bleeped-<-lington, Titlington, Cockplay, Cockshot, Once brewed and then the next village twice brewed allegedly named from the strength of the beer in each pub village, Wetwang, Busty Bridge, Low Bell End Farm and Oldman Bottom.

There is a grassy park area near me called titty bottle corner or bank but the local residents have gradualy renamed it nannys corner. Apparently it is where the nanny's who worked for the wealthy residents used to congregate each morning to chat and feed their young charges.
