I'm new here and unsure if this is the right forum for this.
This week was the National Science Teacher's Association national conference. There was one session specifically about teachers in our community. How were things going? Could they be out? Were they finding support? How were they taking care of themselves.

As we talked, we realized there was no system of support for us. Soon we had everybody on an email list. Two of us are state leaders in California, representing two county offices of education. It was a watershed moment for Christie and I; we are moving forward. We don't have a specific plan yet, except to gather together online and, when possible, in person, other LGBTQ+ science educators and to do a session at the next California conference (CASE).

Why only science teachers? Because that is our area of influence. Of course all multiple subject teachers are science teachers 😀

She and I have been in our science leadership roles for over ten years. We've both taken lead in our areas with LGBTQ groups, too. We lay no claim to being experts in this or wanting to lead, but we are excited to facilitate whatever this becomes.

We are committed. We are open to any science educators in this group joining us.
