Hey all, a small update from me. Life is super stressful right now with lots of worries, but I am still super happy about transitioning. I ended up throwing out *all* of my boy clothes, even the unisex ones - couldn't bear wearing them anymore. Next week I can finalise my legal name change and I'm looking very much forward to that.
Recently we've been watching Harry Potter again and of course I couldn't help being very annoyed by the discrepancy between JKR's characters and the path she has taken. I used to *so* admire her in the past. I once again read up on how this all started and how it is going with her. And I think on one hand it is no wonder this happened. The way some online activists jump on any critical voice pretty much like the stoning scene in Life of Brian, paired with her personal trauma of abuse, apparently cracked something in her. I get it why she turned against the trans community, I really do. But here's the thing, none of her "good" characters would have stopped doing the right thing, no matter the sh*storm, no matter their personal trauma, no matter how rich or influential or powerful they were, they'd always step up and fight for a minority's rights.
Which led me to reflect on how many trans people represent "our kind" on social media. Sharing negative experiences most of the time, being provocative and such. I find that problematic since it only deepens the divide. It's how social media works these days of course, rewarding negative emotionality. It really destroys society around the globe, and I hope something will put a stop to this.
So those are some recent thoughts I wanted to share with you.
xoxo Val
