Horror films

Is anyone else on here a fan of horror films?

I'm going to watch Smile later after finishing The Void - in a horror film mood!

I used to love them but I just don't find modern horror films all that scary. Can you recommend any I should watch?

I love the classics like American Werewolf in London, The howling, The Thing, Dawn of the Dead, etc etc. Practical effects were way better than the CGI stuff. IMHO

I'm the same way. I'm not into gore or things jumping out of the screen at you, so I prefer the mental stuff.

If you like the kind that messes with your mind, I would recommend 1408 with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.

Weapons is bizarre, and Speak No Evil but that one might be triggering for some.

Source Code is a sci-fi movie with horror elements and will mess with your mind.

Oh I think I might have seen 1408 is that about a hotel room? If it's the one I'm thinking about then I did like that.

I liked Event Horizon too from back in the day. The director Paul W S Anderson (a fellow Geordie along with Ridley and Tony Scott) was in my mums office looking for actors for a different project and he was telling her all about this new upcoming scifi horror film. It sounded great so I went to see it on it's opening night and I absolutely loved it. One of the best Sci fi horrors since Alien. Funny they were both directed by Geordies!

Yes, the haunted hotel room!

I have Event Horizon, but I think District 9 is better. The main character is an actor from New Zealand, but I don't recall his name. It's more sci-fi than horror, but still good.

I do like them. Psychological, thriller or supernatural ones
Dont watch many now as my partner doesn't like them.

Things like Orphan and Hereditary.

District 9 is awesome I agree but it's not deep space horror.

That actor is South African isn't he? He's been in a couple of other things too. Sheldon or Sharlto or something weird like that, no idea what his surname was.

Night of the Demon, a classic 50s black and white is one of my favourites
The Legacy aka The Legacy of Maggie Walsh is a 70s classic with a genuine spooky feel to it. Also a Sam Elliott  shower scene!
The Wicker Man , original with Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward takes some beating. Dont go near the Nicholas Cage abomination!

The Wicker Man is a good one! Yes, the original, not the remake.

I'm also a fan of M. Night Shyamalan, so I can recommend his works such as The Village and Watchers.

Split is very, very creepy! James McAvoy is so talented. He also did Speak No Evil that I mentioned above.

The Sixth Sense is a classic.

If you like the zombie apocalypse genre, The Happening is a good one.

I remember seeing "Creepshow 2" at our local drive-in when I was 10 or 11. "The Gate 2" was also playing. But we left because it was crap. Programs like "Sammy Terry" (Saturday night horror/sci-fi/gore films, edited, obviously) was pretty cool. There was also "Movies Til Dawn". Many genres were shown on there. But it went off of the air the year that I graduated. LOL Renting stuff was rad too. "Video Corner" was THE place in town for Horror/Gore/Exploitation films. Of course, now, it's all (well, most) there with streaming. But I've become more squeamish these days. LOL, I sure as hell can't watch "I Spit On Your Grave" anymore since I had a colonoscopy.

I never watch horror or terror films.  They scared me and I am a scaredy-cat.  A frightened pussycat.  A nervous kitten!
