The US House voted Tuesday to pass a measure to enact year-round Daylight Saving Time across the country, springing Congress forward into an issue that has long stumped lawmakers and spurred impassioned pleas by parents, farmers and others with sharply divergent views.

It will now head to the Senate for approval before going to the president for his signature — though its chances in the upper chamber remain unclear. Proponents argue it would spare Americans from having to change their clocks, disrupting young children's sleep schedules and arguably causing more seasonal depression. But detractors say it could have economic consequences, particularly for farmers who would have to wrestle with later sunrises. The House vote was 308 to 117.

--------------------------------------

I find it interesting that farmers oppose this despite having tractors and trucks equipped with floodlights, allowing them to work after dark. Others worry about the children going to school in the dark. So, start school later in the day; they just get home later when their parents are home. No more latch-key kids! Oh, but it's bad for mental health, and traffic accidents increase. No, people get stressed out after staying up all night to change the dang clocks, then have to drive to work while they are still sleepy. Stop changing the clocks and solve all these problems!

We stopped changing clocks in the late 60s in the UK. Only lasted a couple of years due to accidents, complaints about dark mornings etc. When the clocks go forward it upsets my body clock.

I think this will come down to where you are located in the time zone. The US is large so if you are right on the eastern edge you may be more apposed to the DST being permanent than those on the western edges. I anticipate some states adjust their time zones with the change.

Boy howdy! This administration sure does a great job at addressing the truly hard-hitting issues in our society.

But this brings up an issue: Do you get just one type of pizza, or are you allowed to change up the toppings?
