A Las Vegas resident is going viral for her speech calling out a Moms for Liberty-aligned school board trustee for wearing a transphobic T-shirt to a board meeting.

"A dangerous message is sent: 'You do not belong here. Your safety is not our priority,'" resident Amanda Nuchols said in her speech.

Nuchols showed up to the board meeting last Thursday and saw that Clark County School District board member Lorena Biassotti was wearing an "XX-XY" T-shirt. XX-XY Athletics is a transphobic clothing brand founded by anti-trans activist Jennifer Sey. The brand's spokesperson is Riley Gaines, who tied for fifth place with a trans woman at a college swim meet over four years ago and turned it into a career in right-wing punditry. The name of the brand, XX-XY, is a reference to sex chromosomes, which anti-trans activists argue only come in those two forms (which is not true) and should determine a person's gender.

Nuchols wasn't having it.

"Transgender and nonbinary youth already face staggering rates of anxiety, depression, and bullying," she said in her speech. "They look to school leadership for protection, stability, and basic dignity."

"For a leader to bring targeted hostility into the very room where decisions about their education and well-being are made is both irresponsible and cruel," she continued. "You cannot effectively advocate for the well-being of all children while publicly displaying contempt for some of them."
