Rightwing lawsuit asks Supreme Court to force state to ban transgender athletes

Alex Bollinger (7 Oct 2026)

This past summer, the Supreme Court ruled that states were allowed to ban transgender girls from participating in school sports, but it stopped short of requiring states to do so. Now a lawsuit from a family in Washington state is asking the Supreme Court to immediately ban trans teens from participating in girls' sports, arguing that the state's pro-trans policies violate "parental rights."

The lawsuit involves a cisgender girl, identified as K.M.K., who wants to compete in wrestling but says that the state's high school athletic organization, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), is violating her rights because she might have to wrestle a trans girl. She and her mother, Stephanie Brown, are asking the Supreme Court to immediately step in and require the state to ban trans athletes from participating before a trial can even be held.

The family's filing says that "K.M.K. will be forced to miss the girls' wrestling season that begins in November, losing the equal opportunity that Title IX guarantees" if the Supreme Court doesn't force Washington state to ban trans athletes right away. The filing also says that Brown's "parental rights" will be harmed because, as a parent, she has a right to make decisions about her daughter's health and safety, including who she wrestles with.

I'm surprised that the girl isn't identified as K.K.K to be honest.

She will not be forced to do anything.

If she wants to wrestle, she will be matched with others in her class. She has the right to decline. No one is forcing her to wrestle at all. Wrestling is not a requirement for her education.

She and her parents have the right to choose whether she wants to participate.

If you don't like the rules, then don't play.

...and who she loves, and who she worships, and who she hires, and who she adopts, and a host of other things, we are led to believe?
