Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here, though I've been reading the forums for a while. I'm a 54-year-old from Australia, and I'm finally taking a big step: I have a orchi scheduled at Yanhee Hospital in Bangkok in early January 2027.

I've known for a long time that I wanted this, and after years of dealing with dysphoria, I'm ready. I've completed a WPATH assessment here in Australia, and my GP, Dr. Adam, is organising my aftercare and will send a dossier to Yanhee.

I'm aiming for the 4th of January, but I'm aware that might be tight with New Year travel, so the 9th is my backup. I've confirmed with the hospital that Dr. Worapon will perform the surgery.

I have a few questions I'm hoping the community can help with:

Yanhee Hospital experiences – Has anyone here had surgery at Yanhee? I'd love to hear about your experience, especially with the two required in-house psychiatric assessments. Were you able to pre-arrange them before you arrived? How did that process work?

Hotels near Yanhee – I'm looking for a hotel nearby that has room service and an on-site restaurant (or at least easy taxi access to the hospital and airport). I don't need to be within walking distance—a short taxi ride is fine. Any recommendations for a comfortable recovery spot?

Timing and logistics – For those who've travelled to Bangkok for surgery, how early did you arrive before your procedure? Any tips for managing the pre-op checks and the psychiatric appointments without adding too many days?

Anything else I should clarify with the hospital – I've already confirmed the surgical approach and the cost, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything that could cause a hiccup on the day.

Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Hello and welcome to Susan's Place! Everyone here is at a different point in their journey, so I'm sure there are people who can offer some helpful guidance and suggestions. I've only recently started HRT and haven't had any surgeries, so I don't have much personal experience to offer on those questions. I'm sure someone here will be able to relate to what you're going through and share their experience. We're happy to have you here!💚

Hi Rachel

My name is Sarah and I would also like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!

I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well.

Me and a long time friend called Victoria, just recently went over to Bangkok from Australia.  This was for Victoria's GRS at Phyathai 2 Hospital.  The clinic associated with the hospital is the PAI clinic.  We stayed at a hotel just a couple of blocks away from the PAI clinic on the same road.  Briefly she had an itinerary mapped out and it went something like this:

  • Three or four days before surgery which included two psychiatric interviews not lasting more than 30 minutes both on the same day and medical tests.
  • One week in the hospital and one week recovery afterwards.  I was with her all the time looking after her for those two weeks.

What is going to happen in your particular case, I cannot tell you.  The surgeon and staff should provided an itinerary so that you can plan your flights before and after the surgery.

As you are travelling alone, ask Yanhee to confirm what support they provide during and after surgery, including someone to escort you back to your hotel after discharge and daily wound dressing checks.  Ask whether they can arrange a caregiver or whether you need to arrange this independently.

For hotels near the hospital doing a browser search should yield what you need and the cost of staying there.

Some important things you need to consider are as follows.

  • How you are going to pay for the surgery and hotels.  (we used wise credit card and Victoria payed for surgery in cash)
  • Grab an eSim or something similar as WiFi would more than likely be available at the hotel and you can send messages that way, unless you want to make phone calls to family or friends.

I will let Victoria know about your two posts and she can fill in a few more pertinent details and or advice.  She really planned it very well and kept in contact with the doctor and staff while she planned her journey.

I hope your journey and surgery goes well in January.  From what you have described in your two posts you are well underway in planning, take your time, without rushing things.

Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads.  I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members.

In addition members of Susan's will more than likely discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.

Take care and all the best for the future.

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for the welcome — and for such a detailed response.

It's good to hear about Victoria's experience at Phyathai 2 and the PAI clinic. The itinerary breakdown is really useful: two psych interviews on the same day, then the tests, then surgery. I've been trying to work out how many days I need to arrive before surgery, so knowing it was three or four days beforehand gives me a much better idea.

I've already asked Yanhee about post-op support, and unfortunately they don't have a partner care service. So I've started looking into arranging a caregiver independently — currently looking at Elder Thai, who do nurse visits for wound care and can provide a caregiver to escort me back to the hotel after discharge.

On the practical side, thanks for the tip about Wise and the eSim. I'll look into both. I hadn't thought much about phone/data yet, so that's a good nudge.

My surgery is likely to be January 4th, with January 9th as a backup if travel over New Year gets too tricky. Hence wanting to know how much time I need to be there before surgery!

I'll definitely add a bit more about myself in the other threads.

Stottie Girl

Hiya Rachel, A big warm welcome to Susans! I'm Sarah (groan, not another one!) I'm 50 and from Northern England.

I have not had surgeries so cannot answer your specific questions about the orchie or the hospital but I am interested in your experience. I am hoping to get an orchie within the next 3-6 months if possible so it has personal significance to me.

There is a whole section on here dedicated to orchiectomies so there is a wealth of knowledge available but I'm sure others will be able to chime in with their personal experiences to help you.

Nice to meet you anyway.

Sarah xx
