Donald Trump said that six states can kidnap children from school and forcibly transition them, and that Minnesota was one of those states. This is not true in any state.

Trump, for years, has claimed that schools are forcibly transitioning children, specifically turning cis boys into trans girls. In the past, his claims have been more vague, but at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, yesterday, he got very specific, saying that the state of Minnesota – along with five other unnamed states – take children away at school, "mutilate" them, and change their names from Jimmy to Janet.

"Mutilate your children. They want to mutilate, cut your children," Trump told the crowd. "It's unbelievable what they do."

"Six states, I mean, they could do whatever they want, and they do. Your son leaves as Jimmy. And comes back home in three days as Janet," he said as some people in the crowd laughed.

"And they don't even ask you. Most people don't believe that, you know, they think it's, like, an exaggeration. It's not."

"They can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want. These people are sick. Minnesota is one of those states that can do that."

This is a claim that Trump made repeatedly on the 2024 campaign trail, although he didn't specifically mention Minnesota at the time. LGBTQ Nation ran a fact check of this statement and rated it "False."

The saddest part about this is not that the President of the United States is lying to its citizens. The saddest part is that people will believe him without even questioning whether it is true. No one in government seems to be interested in calling him out or holding him accountable. As a result, our country slips deeper into the swamp.

I had to look it up.

Defamation laws only consider individuals as victims. States and organizations cannot claim they have been harmed. Individuals can claim harm if they can show things like a loss of reputation, because they have a right to their good name.

This also butts up against the First Amendment right of free speech and freedom of the press. Generally, the Supreme Court has ruled that political rhetoric, even if false and targeting a state or group, is not actionable (free speech).

Minnesota (and Colorado) have retaliated through lawsuits in which the Administration withheld funding for discriminatory reasons that are illegal.

I do think he's worried about the mid term elections. In his mind he thinks the best path to victory is to get the public into rally around his attack on the trans community. The more desperate he becomes the more outlandish his statements are.

More specifically, he's worried that he'll feel the consequences of his actions when there are no longer sycophants in charge of both houses of government. I don't think his stacked Supreme Court will be able to save him. His countless illegal deeds will catch up with him.

To me, the frightening thing is that ignorant MAGAs actually think he's innocent. He told them over and over that it was all a witch hunt, and they believed him. Or, they just shrug and say "both sides are corrupt" - as if there's any comparison. This is the age of willful ignorance.

I was talking to an American emigré just a couple of days ago about this.  Hie is here on a tourist visa, which means he has to go back for a few months, but he eventually wants to move here permanently because of how bad things are down there.  So I asked him if he would be back home in time to vote.  He said that he had no intention of voting, because "both sides are equally bad".  (His words, not mine.)  My mind is still boggling at the self-centred stupidity of that position.

That attitude is what got us here. Myself, I'm not voting. Why? I don't want to be assaulted or shot. That is the ONLY reason I am staying home. If it wasn't for that. I would go to the same polling place that isn't even a 5 minute walk from me.

All of our ballots are mailed. Then you can return it by mail, drop it in a dropbox, or take it to a polling place. My dropbox is just up the street, so I drop it there.

Chances are that I wouldn't qualify. This state has a lot of hoops to jump through to do that. The only time that they rescinded that was during the pandemic. That is the only time I voted via a mail-in ballot.

The truth is that it never mattered at all if I voted or not. This county goes 70+% red every single time. I just wanted to give them the finger. Now? Yeah, it's not worth getting my skull cracked, being shot dead, or being snatched up and sent to who knows where. I mean, you honestly think that I should put my neck out for this country? A nation that was too foolish and apathetic to do what was right and choose a much easier option? Nah. It's not worth it.
