Pamphlets mailed to Texas voters and claiming to be a resource guide for trans and LGBTQ+ students have reportedly been linked to an LLC that was registered in Wyoming just last month.
Social media posts by outraged conservatives who received the mailers began appearing on Monday as early voting in the state began – and just a week after Texas voters reported receiving unsolicited texts linking to the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) website. Like the text messages, the "Texas Trans & LGBTQ+ Student Resource Guide" pamphlets include TENT's web address and also a QR code linking to its website.
But the organization has denied any involvement with the texts or the mailers. "These text messages and mailers were not authored, authorized, approved, or distributed by TENT and are not affiliated with our organization," reads a statement on the group's website.
TENT told the Concho Observer that it doesn't have anywhere near the estimated $3 to $4 million it would cost to produce a full-color, two-sided mailer and send it to every household in Texas.
Images of the mailers posted on social media show that they were addressed to "Students Of [Surname] Family." The return address lists "Texas Transgender Student Union" as the sender. But as local NBC affiliate KXAN reports, while the return address is similar to that of a USPS store mailbox used by TENT, it does not, in fact, exist.
On Tuesday, after journalist Andrew Perez claimed in an X post that the mailers came from "an anonymous LLC formed in Wyoming last month," Texas Observer contributor Steven Monacelli shared screenshots indicating that an LLC using the name "Texas Transgender Student Union" was formed in Wyoming on September 2. --------------------------
