Male wearing dress denied entrance to prom

Eighteen-year-old Kevin Logan says he is a homosexual who is exploring his sexual identity. He has dressed as a female while attending classes this year.

Logan arrived last Friday for the prom wearing a fuchsia, slinky prom dress and heels but was not allowed inside.

Sylvester Rowan, assistant to Gary Schools Superintendent Mary Steele, said the decision to exclude Logan was based on "the dress code, not the student's homosexuality. That's his personal preference."

Rowan said it is school policy that males can't wear dresses.

"The administration would have erred in judgment if it had allowed the male student the privilege of dressing as a female," he said in a statement.


West Side students reported that a girl was allowed to attend the prom in a tuxedo.

Reminds me of Reflections of a Rock Lobster by Aaron Fricke, which was the same kinda thing in the 80's. Boy not allowed to take male date to prom. So I guess we are about 25 years behind gay rights.

Nice to see the reaction of his fellow students though and parent.
