"Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives"

"The film paints a vivid portrait of the clandestine homosexual culture in the 1940s, '50s and '60s. Ten lesbians talk about their first affairs, queer literature, gay bars, police raids, race and class divisions, and the etiquette of butch femme roles. Interspersed among the interviews and archival footage are dramatized chapters showing typical scenes from steamy pulp novels. Ann Bannon, a writer of 1950s lesbian paperbacks, also speaks about the genre.
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde
