voice question - laughing?

So I'm just at the start of working on this voice thing, but I was watching TV and it got me thinking -- what is there that can be done about laughter?  My laugh is sort of not very masculine but definitely not very feminine.  Is it just a matter of lots and lots of practice or are there specific techniques for working on laughter?

I studied and practiced voice for a long time. If you can talk in a female voice with some controle at first youu will be able to laugh in that same voice. Then in time it will just come out natrally.

hi Vesper  I saw your other post and congratulations on starting your therapy! I have always had somewhat of a feminine voice, but I have also practiced a lot and hardly ever try to sound male anymore. One trick I used was to purchase one of those little handheld digital voice recorder thingies- that way you can get instant feedback on what you really sound like and adjust your voice parameters accordingly. Watching TV is another wonderful way to practice- listen carefully to what females on TV say and how they laugh, and then try repeating it with the same tones and inflections. It's not only the pitch but other qualities as well. And just like almost,angie said, after a while it becomes second nature and you may even find it difficult to revert back to your male sounding voice. The laughter will just follow naturally.  If you keep at it, you will perfect it in time (which is odd for me to say because I'm the world's most impatient girl lol)

I am fine with conversation and my laugh is feminine but I don't like it. Rather, my family doesn't like it. I tend to laugh like my mother now and it is shrill. The issue is that I forget about them and when I am watching a comedy on TV, will do that natural laugh. It sounds female alright but now every show I watch, I end up laughing silently so as not to be told to keep it down.  So I really don't want to watch comedies anymore.  The odd thing is that when I laughed as a male, they didn't like that one either.  Me smells a rat...

I got mine at Staples. They had several to choose from.

Staples would be good- probably any office supply type or electronics outlet. I got mine at Best Buy.

I agree - give it time. I think when the voice is solid and with life's experience the laugh will come. Some things evolve on their own and seem to be tied to how you see and feel about yourself. They will naturally evolve into your own unique style.

(The cute one was my sneeze - totally involuntary but I have the cutest sneeze LOL!)

My voice and laugh just came naturally.  I guess it's good enough.  Everyone says it is and I've never been questioned about it.

It's interesting, but laughter may be one of the best tests for whether you are getting your voice right.....

...simply because it is spontaneous and difficult to force without sounding fake..

So I think start with the voice, and the laughter will follow...(did I really say that...I mean your laugh...Oh you know what I really mean....Hmmm)
