The melody or rhythm of a song will first gain my interest
and cause me to listen to the words, which must be discernible.
If I find the words touch my heart It will probably become
another one of my favorites and I will seek out more from
the person that sings it. If the words can't be understood
or were obviously written as a filler to a decent beat it
becomes an "Ear Worm". To me, the most important part
of a song is the sentiment or message in the words.

The melody, rhythm and lyrics are important to me most to some degree. But I performed in several bands including top 40 bands were all that mattered was getting the song right. I do have some fav. groups. But in reality I don't care who's doing it as long as it has that certain kick to it

I have some favorite artists, but not everything they come out with is a hit with me.

I chose lyrics... But I like 'em not for the sentiment in and of itself, but how it's conveyed. I like "epic poetry" in lyric..

With Janet. I love hip hop, and honestly there are fave songs where it took me a dozen listens to even get the all the lyrics. Rhythm first, definitely.

The rhythm and melody are my muse for writing.  I actually prefer instrumentals over vocals in movies.

I chose the melody or rhythm, but it really depends upon the song.  There are some songs that I love just for the lyrics, and some that I love despite the lyrics.

I like the beat of a song and the tune of how the singer sings. Even if I can't understand what they say. And if later I find out the lyrics meanings and the lyrics are really good I'll like the song even more. If the lyrics mean something bad then my likeness for the song kind of goes down

I voted "all of the above", and have performed in many bands over the years myself. As a rhythm section member I would always emphasize locking with the drummer and focus on laying down the foundation as the bass player.

Music is essentially theater in my mind, the lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, the vocals (if applicable) all combine and interact with my soul, my being, my essence. Music is very chronological for me, I can relive a memory, a place in time, by simply hearing a certain song, it's very powerful and spiritual for me.
