I am a possible trans person (still about to go to therapy for the first time soon to sort it all out!) But I was wondering--my receding hairline is awful :(.  Does HRT do anything to restore any of it or does it just make existing hair more luminous and thicker?

Also, does HRT (sorry this wasn't in the title!) do anything to make thick, coarse body hair a little finer or lighter at all?

Thank you!

Welcome to my world.  I take Proscar as part of my HRT and use Minoxidil.  I am see some filling by noting to brag about.

It varies from one person to another. One friend of mine went from almost bald to a pretty good head of hair. Others haven't been so lucky. I think age and how long the hair has been thin has something to do with it.

HRT is a bit like pouring water on a sick plant.
If your hair is dead, it's dead. Only a necromancer can help.
If it's dying, it might come back a bit. It also might be a bit scraggly.

For me the hrt helped but I also been on minoxidil for 9 years before starting hrt steady. I having growing in all the to my original hair line. But what has grown back is finer, thinner, and almost like translucent blonde.

That my experience,

I like Renate's answer, the green thumb approach to growing hair.. if it's dead, pouring water, or well, minoxidil in this case, isn't going to help much.

However, if you are in your first decade of hair loss, you might be surprised what comes back.  That's where I was at, a huge M-shaped, very male receding hairline, and losing the battle quickly starting around age 30.  However,  in my experience,  propecia and anti-androgens filled in much of it when I started them at 38, and a scalp advance took care of most of the rest of it.   I do still have thin hair, but there is hair!  There is hope!

And also, the 2nd part of your question, in my experience, HRT has reduced all of my body hair by at least 70%, and turned almost all of the remaining body hair light colored.. I was prepared to do laser on my chest and back, and 2 years of HRT has made this unnecessary, yay!

Best of Luck antarcticsake!  *huggs*,

Thank you guys so far ! :)

Well I just noticed my hair loss when I was like 16 and I think it started around then, which is weird.  I never had a "perfect" hairline but it was well on its way then, i'm now 20.  FML! haha.  it's awful.  i'm trying to scalp massage it 3X a day and use nioxin, which for the past 2 months has done nothing.  oy.
