Southern Illinois University Carbondale kicks off its annual Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender History Month this evening with a lecture from a representative of Illinois' leading gay rights group and one-time vocal critic of university president, Glenn Poshard.

Rick Garcia, director of public policy for Equality Illinois, will give a lecture in Parkinson Hall Brown Auditorium at 6 p.m. on the current GLBT issues in the state, including a recent attempt by some to put a gay marriage ban on the November general election ballot.
