Jeremy Heideman may be the only actor on stage in Venice Theatre's production of "I Am My Own Wife," but he's got lots of company.

In the course of Doug Wright's Tony Award-winning play, Heideman plays 35 different characters, some for just a moment, and others who reappear throughout the play. But the focus is on two people. One is the subject of the play, the German transvestite Charlotte van Mahlsdorf, a real person who survived the reign of Hitler and later the communists in East Germany. The other is the playwright himself, who travels to Germany to interview his subject and begins to change his perspective and alter the direction of his play.
