White House: No Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal This Year

Press Secretary Gibbs told reporters Wednesday that the President does not intend to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell this year.

Gibbs confirmed that the President is committed to a time line that gives the Pentagon until December 1 to study the issue.

A reporter pointed out that made passage of a repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell impossible this year. Gibbs told reporters, "Well, again -- the House and the Senate are obviously a different branch of government. The President has a process and a proposal, I think, that he believes is the best way forward to seeing, again, the commitment that he's made for many years in trying to -- changing that law."

Gee, what a surprise, Obama going back on his word. Sure didn't see that one coming. ::)

I'm not surprised. I felt that this issue would get a big challenge even during the campaign in 2008. In my mind, I think this is going to hurt the military because talented men and women who want to serve are being drummed out because of their sexuality/gender. The military is meeting its quotas by enlisting felons.

He's the effing commander in chief.  He can issue an executive order.  Congress can kiss his black ass on this one.

I remember when Clinton said that a bunch of occifers threatened to resign if he repealed it.  Guess what.  The US military will need to downsize very soon.  That's a perfect opportunity to make sure all the bigotted a-holes hit the unemployment line.

And in the meantime, how about enforcing the "don't ask" part as enthusiastically as the "don't tell" part.  How about dishonorably discharging the ass-kers and the witch-hunters who go out of their way to dig up ->-bleeped-<- on those who don't even tell.  HOW ABOUT THAT!!!!!!

But, but, several demographics (including conservatives) want gays to be able to serve openly in the military!

What the heck is the administration holding out for?
