Mr Leather Australia New Zealand, Melburnian Josh Burrows, who competed in the competition coming ninth, told MCV the issue had "driven a wedge between the old guard and the new".
"There's always been a grey area between progressive and conservative leather men, but now there's a definite line in the sand," Burrows said.
When Mr Leather Rio Grande Tyler McCormick was named as International Mr Leather, the announcement was greeted with great applause, but it didn't take long for the reaction to kick in.
