Swollen nipple after surgery?

Hey guys,

Im stressing quite a bit atm coz when i went to change my first bandage on my left nipple not too long ago it was stuck out as if swollen.  Yesterday when i had my unveiling, both my nipples were flat and my right one still is.  If i touch it, its like one of the bubbles on that bubble-wrap stuff.  Has anyone had this experience before?  I called my doc and he said its a bit odd and just to reapply my bandage and put the ace bandade back on. 
If you experienced what did you do and how did it turn?
I'm quite worried

You're still healing, so don't worry too much. I didn't have that happen with mine, although I did have a horrible moment when I changed the gauze the first time and I bled copiously from both nipples. Ergh. What after-care instructions were you given? Are you putting anything on the nipples, what do you bandage them with and how often, etc.

thanks for your reply m.grimm.  The aftercare instructions i've been given is to change the gauze on my nipples once a day.  I apply some of this yellow gauze stuff then neosporin over that and then a gauze pad on top.  So when i was changing it for the first time today was when i noticed it swollen.
I hope its just swelling....im thinking that because yours bled, mine could be some blood but no escape for it u think??  i just dnt know wat to make of it.  wats even worse is that im flying back home tomorrow morning so the other side of the world so theres no time to see my doc incase anything screws up...fingers-crossed fingerscrossed

From what I hear a lot of guys have their nipples heal differently and some you'll see have one nipple protruding more than the other. Funky things can happen when they're healing. I think just follow your doctor's instructions and keep an eye on it and if it gets any worse see a local doctor to take a look at it for you.

I agree with Osiris. If they really seem wrong, see a doctor when you get home. They're probably just fine, but I totally understand the anxiety. I had nightmares about my nipples dying and falling off. The tissue is traumatized so some swelling is normal. There will be scabs and so on, but the ointment will help them stay moisturized and keep the gauze from sticking while they heal. They really are at their worst at this point, they'll get better.

Im going to have to see a doc.  I contacted my doc again and he said that i will have to get my GP to stick a needle in to drain the fluids.  I just arrived last night so hopefully can see my GP today!  fun fun fun

Hye guys,

just thought i'd update you.  Went to a GP who said that there was a haematoma under my nipple so she tried to drain but could hardly get any.  She wasn't sure what to di so she referred me to a plastic surgeon straight away as we were worried about the health of the graft.  The plastic surgeon was able to drain more out and it ended up being a haematome/seroma and now have to wear the compression bandage all the time now for a couple weeks so the nipple can heal properly and hopefully remain healthy....joys of surgery!  anyways, thanks for your opinions/suggestions

Glad to hear they were able to deal with it. With regards to compression, I wore my binder for all 6 weeks to aid in the healing and to keep fluid down. I did get a little fluid on the left side but it was minor and not under the nipple. Good luck with that nipple!

That's great news. I'm glad they were able to figure it out and handle it quickly so you can heal properly. I'm sure your results are gonna look great.
