A day spent bouncing around on this website looking for answers for my mood swings between male and female and a possibility my genital characteristics in some way are connected to all of this.

<http://www.desaction.org>

I was born in 1949 about a year after my mother had a miscarriage.  My first sister was born in January 1953 and  the youngest in April of 1954.  Mother was given DES to prevent a miscarriage with both of the girls.  At least one grandchild is experiencing related problems to the DES. Mother has no memory or records of taking or being given DES during my gestation.

Today I came across the DES Action website and corresponded my physical characteristics and medical conditions with known or associated affects in other DES sons.

First were physical characteristics current and past - microphallus and undescended testicles at birth. While I cannot remember if my testicles were undescended at birth I do know they were tight  to the area from which they were to descend (in fact for a long time I could tuck them back up in at will). Animal studies also indicate DES sons may have a tendency to develop prostate cancer.

Animal testing seems to indicate DES use might be associated with depression, homosexuality and transgender issues.  The kicker is not enough research has been done to conclude this in humans.

Originally my mother and I didn't think DES was available when I was born, however, it was available in the U.S. from 1938 to 1971.  Up until the late 1950's DES was given in injection form with everything later being given in tablet form.  Some forms of the drug are still being given to animals in the food supply chain.

If you are aware your mother or grandmother used DES you might want to notify your doctor of this fact particularly if you are considering SRS, particularly if you are M to F and doing HRT.

Since I am not 100% sure of my exposure to DES,  I guess my quest goes on.
