What's in a word? Susan Sarandon doesn't see problem with 'Glee'-ful '->-bleeped-<-' use

Susan Sarandon has no patience for the P.C. brigade - or TV. "Glee" recently took on her 1975 cult hit "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," only to come under fire from GLAAD for using the word "->-bleeped-<-." When we caught up with Sarandon, she said the controversy puzzled her. "What should they have said?" she asked, adding that she knew plenty of people who proudly called themselves "trannies." GLAAD, she said, was "getting like PETA - way out of control." (Not that Sarandon is invested in "Glee" and its dramas. "Now that my kids are gone," she said, "I don't watch TV at all.")

GLAAD spokesman Richard Ferraro responded by reiterating his organization's objections. "The word 'tra—y' has become an easy punch line in popular culture," he wrote in an email, "and many still don't realize that using the term is hurtful, dehumanizing and associated with violence."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

I think people are ignorant of things they are not exposed to. Hollywood should take responsibilty to find out what is correct before informing the world incorrectly and setting an offensive trend.

So Susan Sarendon, someone who will never hear the word, "tra**y" hurled at her with contempt and hatred, thinks it's an OK term?  How nice of her to tell us!   >:(

This is just another example of a cis person trying to decide for us what is offensive and what isn't.  She can trot off to Hades for all I care.  I find it offensive and if I hear anyone who isn't trans using the term I'll tell them so.

Words have power.  Look at the effect bullying can have on people.  We don't use the words fa**ot, ni**er, etc. because they are offensive slurs.  "Tra**y" falls into that same category.

The biggest and most well-known Trans event in the Bay Area is ->-bleeped-<-Shack.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

I don't have a problem with people using it to describe themselves, but seems like something to avoid calling others...even if for some it's the same as calling them trans or whatever else, plenty of people have had it used on them as a slur. So how are they going to know?
