The DoE is working on oil deals with the following countries:
Indonesia
Russia
Angola
Kazakhstan
This is an effort to diversify the oil supply for the United States.
The DoE also announced a few other changes including a statistical shift in the energy accounting for geothermal energy in an effort to be consistent "with the experience of the domestic power industry."
In October of last year the US posted these numbers (in monthly-thousand barrels):
Total: 413,052 (down from 431,052 during the previous month)
OPEC countries supplied: 171,260 (Saudi Arabia alone was 42,856)
Non-OPEC: 241,792 (Canadian imports: 66,465)
According to the DoE's website:
"Oil is the lifeblood of America's economy. Currently, it supplies more than 40% of our total energy demands and more than 99% of the fuel we use in our cars and trucks. "
