Spanish transsexual added to the Socialist candidate list in Madrid

The Socialist Party leader in Madrid, Tomás Gómez, has announced the signing of the transsexual Carla Antonelli to stand for the party. It's understood she is likely to be given a high place on the lists for the regional elections to be held on May 22, meaning in all likelihood she will be elected.

Famous in Spain as an actress it means a return to politics for Carla who left politics and gay activism in 2007 when the Ley de Identitad de Género was approved, for which she campaigned by even going on hunger strike. She was also the first person in Spain to ask for a change of name and sex on her DNI identity document.
