Tennessee House to Consider Birth Certificate Bill Tuesday

The Tennessee House Health and Human Services Subcommittee will consider Tuesday a a bill to allow the amendment of birth certificates to reflect a change in gender, according to the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition.

HB 0187 would allow people born in Tennessee to amend the gender designation on their birth certificate under the following conditions:

    Upon receipt of a sworn statement by a physician, surgeon, endocrinologist, gynecologist, internist, neurologist, psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker indicating that the gender of a person has been changed, the certificate of birth of the individual shall be amended to reflect the change.
