Somewhere along the line, Nina Arsenault got terribly sidetracked.

Seeking herself, she instead wound up pursuing, as assiduously as others might stalk wealth or a career, the illusory goal of physical perfection. The image, she thought, was the person. Wrong.

As she reveals in her fascinating but flawed autobiographical performance The Silicone Diaries, her quest - and the story is like a misguided hunt for a holy grail - began with a reasonable enough intent.

A female born into a male body, she decided to become the woman she was meant to be.
