This thread made me think of a convo I had with my brother the other day. We were talking about my hair, and I told him that I was thinking of growing it out and going all Jareth (David Bowie) from The Labyrinth, and he laughed and went, 'Oh god no! Here you are trying to be all masculine, and you want to have hair like David Bowie?! He's so effeminate!' to which I replied, 'I'm changing so I can be myself, not some male stereotype' which shut him right up. :P

I think a lot of us can get lost in the need to pass, and so give up things about ourselves that don't necessarily fit into the gender norms. It's a real shame. :(

I don't know if the OP's question is still on-topic, but I'll just answer it anyways..

I've actually seen a lot of guys with nostril piercings - not as many as women of course, but nose rings have been punk since the 80's. As long as you have any sort of facial hair I wouldn't worry about it affecting your passing at all.
I used to have a nose ring and long dreadlocks while pre-T, and they didn't make me pass any less than with no piercings and short hair.

It's certainly not masculine but it's not necessarily feminine either. Neutral.

I think of rings or hoops to be more masculine because I know of a couple cisguys with them and don't feel it makes them more feminine. I think that studs are generally more feminine, though.

It's not gender related. Both genders have Piercings!

I think they look icky for any gender.

One on the side of the nose, feminine. Septum piercings I see a lot on transguys (or maybe I just notice more because I spend more time looking at transmen...), but a thick gauge is pretty masculine. How old are you? Your mother shouldn't really be able to stop you from getting whatever you want pierced.
I'd go for a septum piercing myself, but my face is so small I'd look out of proportion XD

Like a bull = masculine

Stud on the side = girly

I had my septum done, looked better than people assumed it would. However I did get a few jokers who liked to touch it and knock on my face with it... to be honest that was funny to me though.

Anyways nose rings in my opinion look less feminine than studs, but I agree with that they usually look pretty feminine in general. Septum piercings don't really look masculine or feminine in my opinion, I've seen them on girls and guys...
