I've read a lot about the experiences of those going through the RLE but never anything like this.  Sandy (Kassandra) and I are living together now and it's been really nice to have someone who is going through the same thing to talk to.  But the other day I found myself a bit miffed when I noticed, for the umteenth time, that Sandy had taken her dirty dishes to the kitchen but didn't put them in the dishwasher.  A talk was in order!

So while we were both in the kitchen last night, I seized the moment.  "Sandy, this is a counter, this is a sink and this is a dishwasher.  Dishes get cleaned in the dishwasher, not on the counter and not in the sink, unless you want to wash them by hand" (she cringed).  I figured that was pretty cut and dry.  But I was wrong!

Sandy replied, "But I figured if I didn't put them in the dishwasher I wouldn't have to empty it when it was clean."

I almost fainted!  I raised three kids to adulthood and I remember all too well teenage logic.

"You sound just like a teenager!"  (I was laughing pretty hard by this time)

"Well I am!  I'm in my second puberty!"

There was no need to continue any further.  I was going to lose this one no matter what!

I didn't know being a mother to another TS was part of the RLE.  Guess I was wrong!

Cute. :)  Since I live by myself, I pretty much HAVE to keep up on dishes, laundry, and cooking.  Fortunately it doesn't bother me too much.  I still have kids, so acting like a mother is still a necessity.

Ah, the pitfalls of roommies.  As you get older, it is even harder for everything to work.  At least you have someone to share life with.  And Sandy sounds like a terrific friend.  Now, I would LOVE it if my hubby would place the dishes on the counter when he's done.  He thinks that the dishwasher doesn't do a good enough job in cleaning the dishes.  So instead of putting them IN the dishwasher, he puts them in the sink and fills them with water. I suppose he thinks I will wash them by hand that way or something. I would rather take them off the counter than to get into the sink and empty that mess!

Ummmm... I thought dishes went on the floor infront of the dishwasher for the dogs to lick clean first,..... then its allmost gaurentied the dishwasher will finish the job LoL

That was allways a big thing with my ex and I.... The deal was I worked my butt off, and she would wash the dishes atleast once a week (we usualy ate out so didnt genorate that much of a mess)  The dishes didnt get done for 4 months straight because I refused to give in and do them myself... and she didnt feel like it.  *Sighs*  Neither did I... afterall which one of us was working a 12-18 hr day and which one was going out with her friends and watching movies all the time?

Hmm, I don't think the dishwasher does a good enough job alone either, so I do clean off the dishes before sticking them in the dishwasher.  It works pretty well too. :)

I do the dishes at night and Pat does them in the morning. We don't use the dishwasher, but if  our daughter and family come over then we put them in the dishwaher. We don't generate many dishes and I like to do them by hand. I feel they get cleaner. This goes for the house work too. We share.

You mean there are people out there who will not let the dogs lick the meager portion left clinging to the plate?  What is the world coming to?

Mine know when I am about finished.  Then they give me the eye treatment.  When the tail starts it's all over.

Julie very funny post ! It reminds me of when the kids were still home, and they would put the dishes in the sink instead of the dish washer, until we made a new rule that if you put them in the sink you had to wash and put them away before bed ! From that point on all the dishes always went in the machine !

Hey!  Why do you always have to take her side?

And you should see what time curfew is around here!  It's tough for a girl to have ANY fun!

Actually, other than that whole dishwasher thing, Julie and I have had a good time together.  We seem to chatter for hours.  I come home, and change as soon as I can, because I can barely stand to be a guy any more.  And we talk or we go out shopping.  This has done more for my self confidence than just about anything else.  I feel very comfortable as myself.  It's been good.  And she is one very good friend!

Cute, maybe.  True?  Definitely!  And don't apologize for taking my side since I'm always right.  ;D

And don't let Sandy fool you either.  There's the driveway to shovel and the floors to wax and the kitchen to clean and on and on.  And she's whining about doing her laundry!

As far as the doggie dishwasher, I got one too.  He's awesome!  Anyone grossed out about a dog licking their plate needs to be reminded a dog's mouth is hospital clean compared to a human's mouth.

Sandy!  Stop licking your plate!

LOL, I have a dishwasher at home but I am rarely there.  The friends I am involved with...I am usually their dishwasher and the piles of dishes from three people never seem to go away.  Good thing I am only there a few days each week.

As for being a parent...  I have been adopted as a parent for a few new gals in the world.  Do not ask me why because there has to be a better way to do all of this than what I have done.   Just be proud that someone trusts you so much in the role.  ;)

I'm glad we have a light hearted thread here.  What fun.  Julie and Sandy, you have a wonderful time to share in life.  You will remember this time as being very special.
