I really don't think I would think about it like that. I'm an organ donor on my drivers license so that when I die, my body parts can be used to improve the length and/or quality of life for someone. I wouldn't be freaked out by it at all, it's simply a human act of decency. It's not as if the donor needed it anymore.

Ryan I can also see your point of view.  However keep in mind having a penis doesn't work people happy.  If that was the case 52% of the population would be bouncing around thrilled to be alive instead side eyeing every cliff they come across.

The man's decision made sense to me, I don't know if I'd want a piece of a dead person attached to me, just wouldn't feel like it was mine. I mean I've thought about the possibility of the future having penis transplants and I've got mixed feelings. I do have penis envy, it pisses me off, but I'm not sure I'd want someone else's to touch, I think it's because it just feels very intimate.

I believe that most men, if given the choice of losing both legs, or the penis, would again choose the legs. It's that important. At the very least, they'd think about it long and hard. (No pun intended)

that's what i was trying to say. not that i can't possibly rationalize the guys actions at all, i can see his side. it's more about the opportunity being given and then wasted that id KILL for.

Ryan, I think you need to calm down just a little   The guy's not trying to hurt trans people by removing the penis.  And we all know what it's like to want a part of our body to be cut off.  To me, him removing his penis that he was not comfortable with, would be just like a MTF removing her penis.  If it makes them happier.


On another note, I almost, possibly, doubt the story.  I mean, it did say that this was the first time ever that a penis transplant was made, and then only TWO weeks later he has it removed?!  That's awfully soon.  I mean, I would at least give it 6 months, and if I still was horrified at it, I would consider removing it.  And I don't even get how the wife had the biggest problem with it.  Two weeks after the surgery, he could have still been in the hospital recovery.  I doubt she'd like tried to have sex or anything with it yet.  And she knew what she was getting into when he had the surgery.

first of all, i never implied that this man or his doctors had any affiliation with or even knowledge of trans issues. i never made the connection that they were somehow "acting against us" so please don't make that accusation. secondly, i wouldn't compare it to lower surgery for (normal) MTFs because this man campaigned to have the surgery done and then decided to reverse it so soon. why didn't he have to be put on a years-long waiting list to have his genitals corrected? why didn't he have to go through thousands of dollars worth of mental health professionals and doctors to get cleared for the surgery? his "wait time" from the moment he lost his penis to successful transplant was 8 months. the shortest amount of time any trans person who ever existed in the entire world had to wait to be "given" the proper genitals by modern medicine was 16.5 years. yes, there are transsexuals who regret transition post-op, but i place them with this man and cite inadequate psychological prep for the surgery. i'm so angry because everyone felt so strongly that this one man had such a RIGHT to have a penis that they rushed into an experimental surgery that he found out FOURTEEN DAYS LATER that he didn't even want. why do we have no right to our own correct genitals? also, this story is completely real. you don't fake a groundbreaking medical milestone on the bbc.... and i don't appreciate being told to calm down just because you disagree with me.

Avez-vous oublie soeur that I am a man and I don't have a typical penis and my life is not broken.  I know many cis-men feel the way you described about their genitalia but if they lost it, the majority would carry on.

In fact I do know several guys who fantasize about having their penis removed as a fetish act but that's neither here or there.

I believe JohnAlex is referring to the statement that implied you would like to add a shotgun wound to the man's current list of medical problems because he doesn't agree with YOU.  This I completely agree with.  You don't go around shooting people just because you would do it differently in the same situation.  The end result would be him dead and you in a prison cell still without the correct parts.   With a much less chance of ever getting them I might add.   

I know you were just saying it for dramatic effect but murder is never a good thing to say or suggest.    He had his reasons for removing it after 14 days the same as you have your reasons for wanting one so bad.  What he did had nothing to do with you and your dysphoria so don't take it personally.

Come on, donation of body parts always carried a risk of psychological rejection. I was going to bring up the guy who had his donated hand removed, but the article already did that. It's why people who receive face and arm transplants have therapy to go with it.
Anyway, the story is probably fake. It's China. Remember when the South Korean guy claimed to have cloned human embryos? These medical hoaxes happen.
