Unfortunately, everyone feels like they are being attacked, because everyone feels their position is justified.  This is why I said that the debates will never stop unless one of the following happens:

1)  People agree to disagree, and just stop talking about this topic.
2)  We reach a compromise on the issue (extremely unlikely)
3)  Social conditions change that make the arguments from one side obsolete.
