Okay so to get hormones you must see a therapists for 3 months does that mean everday for 3 months or can it be week seesions or once a month sessions

I've always heard 12 sessions = hormones, generally being one session a week for three months. But it varies greatly, depending on the therapist and patient. You can likely arrange something that works best for your schedule.

once a week then after that you can make 2 weeks and finally like me every 2 months but yea initially you need once a week for 3 months

in the old SOC (v6) it generally meant visits over a 3 month period although with v7 it's a bit more flexible when it comes to giving the mental health pro discretion in evaluating clients (so that may not need 3 months time from first visit to recommendation).

It all depends on the therapist. Some will write the letter for you even before the 3 month mark and have you find a doctor while the 3 months expire, some wont. Mine, I had to see once every week for a couple weeks, then once every other week for about 2 months and he wrote a letter and said "theres no reason for you to come back here until you're on hormones" ... honestly I never went back, just got on hormones! But you have to do what works for you, your doctor, and your endo. Some doctors will not prescribe you anything unless you're actively seeing a therapist. Also, don't think that just because you go in as girl mode that he is gonna write your letter any quicker. They have to find out if you're abusing substances, make sure you do not have any mental problems, and be certain that you are transsexual, and not another form of transgendered, before writing that letter!

Honestly I probably lucked out in that my therapist was one with little experience and my doctor was eager to have me as a patient because she's never had one that was just starting HRT.
To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

I was seeing my therapist on a weekly basis for about 3 months after coming to the conclusion that I needed to transition. I'd been seeing her for about 4.5 months total at that point, but for that first month and a half I still identified as genderqueer and didn't think I'd ever transition.

See the progress that a good old-fashioned identity crisis can do!

As said, it varies.  The therapist needs to make a thorough evaluation before issuing the letter.  For some this happens quickly, for others it takes time.  As for me personally, I got my letter within less than a month and started HRT two weeks later.

I was very fortunate... after 3 botched/unhelpful sessions with a therapist years ago, I never went back and just continued dressing part-time. Then I went to a gender clinic a month ago and the doctor just wrote me a R/X for hormones after I described my life history. I think she must have seen the ring of truth in my story so she believed me and wrote me a R/X, effectively bypassing the whole therapist stage.

maybe don't drop your therapist though :) because you ever want your correct genitalia then you need 2 therapists recommendation letters :) and sometimes going in a girl as you are doesn't help all depends on your therapist :) just thought i would warn you off losing possible srs recommendation letter:)

When I saw my endo she stated that I needed to have three months of therapy before hormones. I was barely 18 at the time, so about a week after the visit I sent her a message stating I understood her concern but I am in puberty and started it late 16. I'll agree to wait on the estrogen but can we at least start me on T-blockers. She sent a message back the next day that she agreed and that my prescription was ready to be picked up! Woot!
