Earlier I was trying to find out if I could change my gender on my Social Security before surgery, though my research has turned but dry in that department. I thought I would share this information, which I found here, but I don't think many people saw it.

Re: Joyce

Changing gender on your Social Security records is possible.  They do, for a fact, require a letter from your surgeon to do so.

This used to be part of the "Trinidad Experience" when you got surgery from Marci Bowers in Colorado.  There was a Social Security Office in Trinidad and Marci's staff would take you down there to get it changed right after surgery.   Now that Marci has moved to CA, I don't know about that part of it.

I changed mine, they asked for the letter and told me it was required.  A current Driver's license is not enough.  They didn't need to keep the letter, just see it.

I'm not sure it matters any more.  However, since politics change, another election in the future could just change the policy back.
